This Week in History
On October 14, 1947, U.S. Air Force Captain Chuck Yeager was the first person ever to fly a plane fast enough to break the sound barrier. This was said to be impossible for years until this day 68 years ago. Yeager got into his X-1 aircraft and was lifted by a B-29 Bomber aircraft to an elevation of 25,000 ft. The X-1 was then released through the bomb bay doors and Yeager soared up above 40,000 ft. and sped past 662 miles per hour!
