This Week in History
On October 6, 1866, the Reno gang carries out the first robbery of a moving train in the U.S., making off with over $10,000 from an Ohio & Mississippi train in Jackson County, Indiana. Prior to this innovation in crime, holdups had taken place only on trains sitting at stations or freight yards.  This new method of sticking up moving trains in remote locations low on law enforcement soon became popular in the American West, where the recently constructed transcontinental and regional railroads made attractive targets.  Railroad owners eventually got wise and fought back, protecting their trains' valuables with large safes, armed guards and even specially fortified boxcars.

Big On Ag
The Big Fresno Fair has arrived!  Kingsburg will be honored next Monday, October 12 with a specific horse race named in honor of the City.

The Fresno Fair honors each of the communities in Fresno County for their efforts and contributions to the Fair, and to celebrate the agricultural heritage of the area.  When you visit, make sure you check out the Kingsburg booth located in the Agricultural Pavilion.

Winter Water

During their October 7 meeting, City Council held a lengthy discussion regarding proper water usage during the upcoming winter months.  The Council discussed the possibility of:
  • Fine adjustment
  • Allotment adjustment
  • Increased fines for gross abusers of water

Ultimately, the Council decided to continue the discussion until their October 21 meeting in an effort to gather more information and data related to winter use.  We welcome any input residents may have about winter usage and ideas for cutbacks.  If you would like to stay informed, the City Council will be discussing winter usage at the October 21 Council Meeting or see our water FAQ's.
