Helpful tips to make life a bit easier.
This Week in History
On August 21, 1959, the modern United States receives its crowning star when President Dwight D. Eisenhower signs a proclamation admitting Hawaii into the Union as the 50th state. The president also issued an order for an American flag featuring 50 stars arranged in staggered rows: five six-star rows and four five-star rows. The new flag became official July 4, 1960.
Welcome William
New Police Officer William Anderson was ceremoniously sworn in during Wednesday night's regular Council meeting.  William began working for the City in late July as our newest full time hire.

William is a Kingsburg resident and KHS graduate who was previously employed by the Fresno Chafee Zoo's security staff.  Please help us welcome William to KPD!
Dog Run
Recently, we've had some additional questions about animal control (AC) procedures.  Our AC operation is a joint effort between City Hall, Police, Public Works and most importantly, our volunteers.  Some answers to FAQs include:
  • KPD will pickup stray dogs that are a threat to public safety, has bitten someone, is creating a traffic hazard, or is injured.  A dog simply running "at large" will not be handled by KPD.
  • Dogs held at Kingburg Corp. yard are vaccinated and sprayed for fleas/ticks.
  • Owners must pay a fee to have their dog released from our custody.  These fees offset food and shelter costs.
  • For liability purposes, we're not an adoption agency.  Our volunteers work diligently to get unclaimed dogs placed.

Those interested in volunteering to assist should contact volunteer Sandi Harbottle or Community Services Coordinator Ashlee Schmal

Don't Leave That

If you live in Kingsburg, chances are you live adjacent to a public alley.  While alleys have numerous benefits, they also can provide challenges for maintenance.  A reminder that alleys are no different from other public spaces, and dumping of unwanted items is prohibited.

The City works closely with Mid Valley Disposal to properly tag and schedule the removal of large items.  If you have items that do not fit in your container, do not simply dump these items in the alley - they will NOT be collected.  Residents can schedule a bulk item pickup or take their item(s) directly to Mid Valley's yard.
Yard Sales
Holding a rummage or yard sale in town?  That's great - but make sure you're aware of the local rules.
  • Only two such sales are allowed per property in  any one year time frame.
  • Sales shall be conducted for periods no longer than three days.
  • Owners are responsible for the removal of their signs or advertisement at the conclusion of the events (i.e. please remove from public utility poles/signs).
Full code language is available by viewing section 17.60.110 of the municipal code.
Continued Transition
As many are aware, 18th Ave. no longer serves as a truck route through the City.  The posted electronic signs have been in place for four weeks and will be removed shortly.  Permanent signs will soon be placed on 18th as well as Sierra St. to alert drivers to the law.

KPD will continue over the next month to monitor and warn trucks over 3 tons that 18th is no longer an available route.  Officers will then issue tickets (if deemed appropriate) for continued use as a truck route.  If you have any questions regarding the change, please contact Alex Henderson.
