Drought Tolerant Planting Tips
This Week in History

On August 12, 1990, the largest tyrannosaurus rex skeleton ever was discovered.  The bones were sticking out of a cliff near Faith, South Dakota and the skeleton was over 90 percent complete.  It was later named Sue, after it's discoverer. The 65 million year old specimen was later purchased by Chicago's Field Museum for $8.36 million, financed in part by Disney and McDonald's Corporations. Sue's discovery has allowed scientists to determine the T. rex had a wishbone, which supports the theory that birds are a type of living dinosaur.

Keep Our Kids Safe
A new year starts for Kingsburg elementary schools next Thursday, August 20.  Please exercise  caution when traveling through school zones.

Follow these tips to keep kids safe:
  • Don't double park or stop on a crosswalk to let children out of a car. These areas are designated to safely walk children across the street.
  • Never pass other vehicles in a school zone.
  • Obey the speed limit and follow safety signage and markings.
  • Choose a different route and avoid school zones altogether if you are not dropping off or picking up a child.
Happy new school year to all the kids out there!
After School Fun
After School Recreation is filling up quick! There are less than 20 spaces available.  Sign up at City Hall during regular business hours.

After School Recreation is held at Lincoln School, and runs throughout the school year.  Enjoy snacks, help with homework, and fun with friends!
Water Rebates
The State is offering up to $2,000 per household for removing their turf grass  and replacing it with low water using landscapes.  That amounts to $2 per square foot of removed and replaced turf for up to 1,000 square feet.

For more information about the program, to see if you qualify, and instructions for applying, please visit the California Department of Water Resources.
SKF
The Selma-Kingsburg-Fowler (SKF) County Sanitation District has been serving the community since 1971 when the Fresno County Board of Supervisors formed this special district.  The purpose of SKF is to provide for the collection, treatment, and disposal of wastewater emanating from the residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial dischargers within it's service area.

SKF provides a regional approach to treatment, keeping costs down for users while planning for future growth.
