On July 16, 1945, at 5:29:45 a.m., the Manhattan Project comes to an explosive end as the first atom bomb is successfully tested in Alamogordo, New Mexico. The original $6,000 budget for the Manhattan Project finally ballooned to a total cost of $2 billion.

Many may remember the most recent Kingsburg Launching Pad contest included two great ideas and teams. In the end, Gymnastics Beat was chosen as the winner.
However, Gymnastics Beat, located in Fresno, has recently discovered their current building is in the path of the planned High Speed Rail project. Given this information, Gymnastics Beat owners volunteered to forfeit their win. While disappointed, they are happy their winnings can be used by Chris and Stephanie Dorrough, and their dream of a sports training facility.
We want to again congratulate both of the contestants for their hard work and look forward to seeing both successful in Kingsburg! |
We enjoyed the first Kingsburg Movie in the Park on July 11 - and it appears you did too! With nearly 200 individuals in attendance, the turnout was great! Now, how about another showing?
Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 8th, 8pm at Memorial Park! We'll have another free movie to view - but it's up to you to pick which one! Voting will run until Wednesday, July 29. The top vote getter will be shown under the stars! The movies are free to attend with snacks available for purchase.

Several of the City's landscaped medians are being converted to drip irrigation to reduce water waste. We recently asked residents what they're doing to help reduce their use during the drought - some of the great ideas include:
- Use a 5 gallon bucket to collect water in the shower while it gets hot.
- Set a short shower song playlist - get out when the songs are over.
- Remove turf and replace with synthetic grass or drought resistant plants.
- Use grey water from sinks/washers to water plants.
- Get a rain barrel and catch water from your downspouts when it rains to use later.
We appreciate all the great comments and want to hear if you have more! Those volunteering ideas will be entered to win a gift card to a local business at the end of July!

Please help us welcome the newest member to the City Hall team, Christina Windover, who began working as a Management Assistant this week. Christina fills a position left vacant earlier this year and will assist with Human Resources, special projects, analytics and more. Christina received her MPA from Fresno State and worked previously for the Center for Multicultural Cooperation.

Mary Colby and Mike Koch in the planning department are here to assist you with questions, forms and getting your project completed. If you have questions, stop in to City Hall or call 897-5328.
