Quote of the Week
This Week in History

On June 5, 1933, the United States went off the gold standard, a monetary system in which currency is backed by gold, when Congress enacted a joint resolution nullifying the right of creditors to demand payment in gold. The United States had been on a gold standard since 1879, except for an embargo on gold exports during World War I, but bank failures during the Great Depression of the 1930s frightened the public into hoarding gold, making the policy untenable

Next Steps
During their June 3, 2015 meeting, the City Council held their first study session regarding the 2015-2016 budget.  After a formal presentation, Council members provided direction related to additional funding for Parks and Recreation.  Those changes will be incorporated into the draft document and the budget will be considered for full adoption during the regular June 17 meeting.

Residents are encouraged to view the draft document online, but should note minor modifications will be made over the next week before the final document is presented.
Almost Ready
The new City Dog Park is nearly ready to open for public use!  Final fence repairs, cleanup and accessibility issues should be completed over the next week.  Signage has been ordered and will be erected when they arrive.

The basin has been cleaned of debris, mowed and trimmed and prepped for human and four legged use.  Additional amenities will be provided as funding becomes available.  The Community Services Commission will be working on fundraising opportunities as well.
June Maximum
As many residents are already aware, the City Council has enacted a number of new guidelines to help establish a water conservation program to help meet our 36% State mandated reduction requirement.

As part of the need to meet the 36% reduction, Council has established a maximum usage  amount for all residential properties from June 2015 - February 2016.   The Council gave great consideration to the  need for more usage in the hotter summer months.  For June, each home is allowed to use up to 27,000 gallons.

Project Discussion

On June 11 @6pm, the City's Planning Commission will continue their meeting from May 21 to discuss a proposed project located at the old Del Monte location on 18th Ave.

Grace Church of the Valley has presented a proposed project which requires a general plan amendment, rezone and conditional use permit.  During the May 21 Planning Commission meeting, Commissioners requested additional time to review a completed traffic study.  The Commission will make a formal recommendation to the City Council, who will hear the issue during their June 17 regular meeting.

Map It

Ever wonder where crime in the City may be occurring?  All residents have the ability to view locations and trends online through Crime Mapping.  The information is generated from reports filed by KPD.  There can be a few days delay from when the event occurred to when the information is posted online.

Residents can also stay in touch by 'Liking' KPD's Facebook page, and downloading their free app

There's an App for That

Have you downloaded the City's App yet? Now's the time - and  you can get the Kingsburg Police Dept. app too!

Both are FREE for Iphone and Android devices.

Overall, Kingsburg's water usage for May was down 39.5% compared to May 2013.  86.8 million gallons versus 143.6 in 2013.
That's great work!  With a 36% State reduction mandate - we're on our way.
