Quote of the Week
"Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."

 - John Wooden

This Week in History

On May 21, 1881 in Washington, D.C., humanitarians Clara Barton and Adolphus Solomons found the American National Red Cross, an organization established to provide humanitarian aid to victims of wars and natural disasters in congruence with the International Red Cross.

Barton, born in Massachusetts in 1821, worked with the sick and wounded during the American Civil War and became known as the "Angel of the Battlefield" for her tireless dedication. In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln commissioned her to search for lost prisoners of war, and with the extensive records she had compiled during the war she succeeded in identifying thousands of the Union dead at the Andersonville prisoner-of-war camp.

Unclaimed Property
Who doesn't like finding money in an old pair of jeans?  This is kind of like that - but the State of California might have your cash.  Check out the unclaimed property website and search if you or your business has unclaimed property.  A quick online search and you might have a little more money in your pocket!
Set the Limit
As many residents are already aware, the City Council has enacted a number of new guidelines to help establish a water conservation program to help meet our 36% State mandated reduction requirement.

As part of the need to meet the 36% reduction, Council has established a maximum usage amount for all residential properties from June 2015 - February 2016.   The Council gave great consideration to the  need for more usage in the hotter summer months.  The maximum usage amounts will be applicable to all residential properties, regardless of size or number of occupants - the amounts below are per home maximums:

Month Allotment
June 2015
                         27,000 gallons
July 2015
                         27,000 gallons
August 2015
                         27,000 gallons
September 2015
                         27,000 gallons
October 2015
                         16,000 gallons
November 2015
                         12,000 gallons
December 2015
                         11,000 gallons
January 2016
                         11,000 gallons
February 2016
                         11,000 gallons

Homes using more than these monthly allotments will be fined $45.00 for each month they consume over the maximum.  These penalties will appear directly on the water bill.  More information will be forthcoming in the next few days, as well as an informational insert in the June utility bill.
