Quote of the Week
This Week in History
On March 29, 1973 the last U.S. combat troops departed from South Vietnam-this came two months after the signing of the Vietnam peace agreement. Hanoi freed the remaining American prisoners of war held in North Vietnam on this day as well. With the cease-fire agreement, it appeared as though America's direct eight-year intervention in the Vietnam War was finally at an end. However, before the last American troops departed on March 29, the communists violated the cease-fire, and by early 1974 full-scale war had resumed. On April 30, 1975, the last few Americans still in South Vietnam were airlifted out of the country as Saigon fell to communist forces. The Vietnam War was the longest and most unpopular foreign war in U.S. history.
Thanks For All You Do

Kingsburg Fire Department and Fresno County personnel were acknowledged at the recent City Council meeting for the rescue of a victim of a house fire. The dedication and emergency efforts of these men greatly contributed to the successful rescue of the victim from a October 29, 2014 house fire. Kingsburg thanks these men, and acknowledges their hard work (from Right to left).

-Fresno Co. Capt. Seth Brown

-Fresno Co. Firefighter Brenton Sanders

- Paid-Call Firefighter George Alves

 -Paid-Call Firefighter John Saubert

- Fire Dept. Explorer Tyler Cox

-Firefighter/Paramedic Kevin Clark

Downtown Park
The Kingsburg Lions Club has been working on improvements to the arbor area at the Downtown Park. The removal process is almost complete.  Unfortunately, the demolition phase exposed several safety issues that need to be addressed prior to the area reopening for use.

The reconstruction phase will address a deteriorating retaining wall, proper ADA access, and seating.  The Lion's Club and City are working to get quotes to complete all necessary work, and the goal is to have all work completed for annual Swedish Festival activities.

Drought

The California drought continues, and has effected the Central Valley greatly.  Everyone needs to do their part to conserve.  Residents should limit watering lawns and planters and follow watering guidelines.

-EVEN numbered addresses watering days:    Wednesday, Friday, Sunday

-ODD numbered addresses watering days: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday

-No watering on Mondays

-No watering between 12:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M.

-No water to flow beyond your property line

If you notice illegal irrigation practices, let us know so we can properly enforce the ordinance.

Where's My Container?

Each residence is equipped with three waste bins; trash, recycling, and a green waste. If you notice a container missing, contact City Hall to report the issue. The first replacement of a missing container is free of charge, the second replacement is the responsibility of the homeowner.

Containers can go missing for a few reasons:
  • Drops into truck (Mid Valley will replace free of charge)

  • Gardner took for use and forgot to return it

  • Illegally removed by third party

Please, be sure to keep the waste bins in a secure place. For more information, call City Hall at (559) 897-5821.

Dog Park Progress

The Community Services Commission continued progress on the proposed new off leash dog park location by composing an itemized list of things to be done in phase 1.  Quotes are being gathered for the items on the phase 1 list (fence repair, ADA access). Currently, the Public Works Department has been working on cleaning up the location by mowing and cleaning litter/debris.  The City Council will hear a proposed ordinance amendment at their April 1, 2015 meeting that will allow for an off leash dog park at the proposed location.

The dog park project will include multiple phases; each will encompass items directed at creating a beautiful off-leash dog park.  Donations can be made for the improvement of the off-leash dog park, contact Ashlee Schmal, Community Services Coordinator.
