Minutes after Ronald Reagan's inauguration as the 40th president of the United States, the 52 U.S. captives held at the U.S. embassy in Teheran, Iran, were released; ending the 444-day Iran Hostage Crisis. The crisis began on November 4,1979 when the U.S. embassy in Teheran was seized. Two weeks later, all non-U.S. captives, female and minority Americans were released; leaving 52 captives at the mercy of
Ayatollah Khomeini for the next 14 months. With
assistance from Algerian intermediaries successful negotiations began in November 1980. President Jimmy Carter flew to West Germany to greet the freed Americans on their way home on January 21, 1981.

The bus stop on the corner of Marion Street and Lewis Street at the Downtown Park has been improved thanks to the Fresno County Rural Transit (FCRT).
The new structure, funded by the Fresno County Rural Transit, replaces an old structure that was deteriorating and was not ADA compliant. The new structure is solar powered and holds the City logo on each end. FCRT and the City are examining other locations for additional stops.
