Quote of the Week
This Week in History
At 8 p.m. on December 30, 1936, in one of the first sit-down strikes in the United States, autoworkers occupy the General Motors Fisher Body Plant Number One in Flint,Michigan. The autoworkers were striking to win recognition of the United Auto Workers (UAW) as the only bargaining agent for GM's workers; they also wanted to make the company stop sending work to non-union plants and to establish a fair minimum wage scale, a grievance system and a set of procedures that would help protect assembly-line workers from injury.President Roosevelt urged GM to recognize the union so that the plants could reopen. In mid-February, the automaker signed an agreement with the UAW. Among other things, the workers were given a 5 percent raise and permission to speak in the lunchroom.
Tree Disposal
Mid Valley Disposal will be collecting holiday trees/wreaths during the first two weeks of January.  If you wish to dispose of the tree in your green waste bin (free of charge), simply cut the tree into no longer than three (3) foot sections.

Fake/Flocked trees can be placed directly in the trash bin.  If you wish to have the trees picked up, you may do so for a minimal fee:
  • trees up to 6 feet - $5.00
  • trees over 6 feet -   $10.00

To have your tree picked up, simply contact City Hall at 897-5821.  The cost of the pickup will be placed on your regular utility bill.  All trees must have tinsel, ornaments and other objects removed prior to pickup or disposal.

A Fresh Start

  • Be realistic
  • Plan ahead
  • Make a pros and cons list
  • Reward yourself
  • Keep trying
The City of Kingsburg wants to wish everyone a safe, happy and healthy New Year.  Happy 2015!
Off Leash Dog Park
The subcommittee group researching potential locations for an off leash dog park has set its next meeting.  The group will meet on Tuesday, January 6 @6pm in Council Chambers.  The group will be further discussing the three potential locations that were determined at their December 15 meeting.

After both public input and Commission discussion, three locations were selected for further evaluation and cost estimates:
  • Heritage Park (Cody Lane)
  • 14th Ave/Azalea Ave. Ponding basin
  • 22nd St./Solig Ave. Ponding basin
For more information, contact Community Services Coordinator Ashlee Schmal.
Marion Villas Update
Many of you have noticed the progress of the Marion Villas project under construction.  The project, which includes 46 senior living units as well as over 3,000 sq. ft. of new retail space, is expected to be completed in May/June 2015.

We've received several inquires regarding renting the residential units.  Those interested should call 877-386-1777.  Interested parties should note that the number goes to a voicemail to leave information.  As the project is still a few months out, a full staff has not yet been hired, so please allow time for return calls from the Fresno Housing Authority.  All names have been added to a list for future contacts.

If you are interested in locating your business in the new retail space, contact City Economic Development Coordinator Jolene Polyack.
Office Hours/Collections
