Quote of the Week
This Week in History

President Franklin D. Roosevelt signs a bill officially establishing the fourth Thursday in November as Thanksgiving Day.

The tradition of celebrating the holiday on Thursday dates back to the early history of the Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay colonies.  A famous Thanksgiving observance occurred in the autumn of 1621, when Plymouth governor William Bradford invited local Indians to join the Pilgrims in a three-day festival held in gratitude for the bounty of the season.
Small Biz is a Big Deal
While most everyone is digesting their meals and preparing for Black Friday - don't forget to support your local business by shopping in downtown Kingsburg on Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday is held on Saturday, November 29.  Visit all the local shops to search for deals and other great items you won't find at the big stores!  Shopping local helps support the Kingsburg economy and keeps jobs right here in town.
Let There Be Light
Tis the season!  The City's Downtown has been decorated in preparation for the holiday season!  The annual Julgransfest will be held tomorrow Friday, November 28 at 6:00pm.  The event begins at Memorial Park, and then includes a walk down to Draper Street.

The Julgransfest marks the Swedish Christmas Tree lighting, and is accompanied by the singing of Christmas carols and ring folk dancing.
Closures & Delays
Are your garbage, recycling and green waste usually picked up on Thursday or Friday?  If so, take note that because of the Thanksgiving Holiday - all collections will be delayed one full day (Thursday pickup will occur on Friday).  Collections will return to normal next week.

City offices will also be closed on Thursday and Friday in observance of the Holiday.  We will reopen on Monday, December 1 at 8:00am.  Happy Thanksgiving all!
Santa Lucia Festival
The Kingsburg Santa Lucia Celebration is coming up quick.  Held in the Kingsburg Swedish Village, residents and visitors can visit downtown, shop for arts, crafts and baked goods.  The kids can visit with Santa at his hut!

All of the downtown shops will be open from 9am - 8pm, and the Festival of Lights Parade starts at 5:30pm!  For more information, visit the Kingsburg Chamber of Commerce
