November 22, 1963, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, is assassinated while traveling through Dallas, Texas, in an open-top convertible. As the Presidential vehicle passed the Texas School Book Depository Building at 12:30 p.m., Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly fired three shots from the sixth floor, fatally wounding President Kennedy and seriously injuring Governor Connally. Kennedy was pronounced dead 30 minutes later at Dallas' Parkland Hospital. He was 46.

Tis the season! The City's Downtown has been decorated in preparation for the holiday season! The annual Julgransfest will again be held on Friday, November 28 at 6:00pm.
The Julgransfest marks the Swedish Christmas Tree lighting, and is accompanied by the signing of Christmas carols and ring folk dancing.

The Kingsburg Santa Lucia Celebration is coming up quick. Held in the Kingsburg Swedish Village, residents and visitors can visit downtown, shop for arts, crafts and baked goods. The kids can visit with Santa at his hut!

The City's second annual Launching Pad application deadline is quickly approaching! Are you interested in starting a business in Kingsburg? You can - and with the help of $25,000 in start up money and vendor donations. The application is quick and easy to fill out. Once the program gets started, you'll be assisted with a business plan and information about how to get up and running. The first Launching Pad yielded two businesses that are now open in Kingsburg (Mitt I Dalen and Sportsfan Barbershop) - you could be next! |
The City's Planning Commission met for a second time on Thursday, November 20 to discuss a proposal presented by Crestwood Mental Health to occupy the former Kingsburg Hospital location.
The meeting was a continuation from the November 13 meeting, as the Commission asked for additional clarification regarding the conditions for approval, the variance proposed, and potential additional safety measures that could be put in place to make sure the neighborhood is well protected.
Staff provided new information as requested, and the Commission decided to continue the meeting until December 11 to provide additional time for review of the materials. The next public hearing on the topic will be Thursday, December 11 @ 6pm in the Council Chambers.
