Quote of the Week
This Week in History
On November 7,1991, basketball legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson stuns the world by announcing his sudden retirement from the Los Angeles Lakers, after testing positive for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.  Revered as one of the greatest basketball players of all time, Johnson spent his entire 13-season NBA career with the Lakers, helping them to win five championships in the 1980s.  Today, Johnson is a prominent spokesman for AIDS awareness and a successful businessman, earning millions from a range of ventures, including movie theaters and restaurants.
Mental Health Proposal
As many are aware, Crestwood Mental Health has applied for a conditional use permit to operate a Mental Health Rehabilitation Center, to be located at the old Kingsburg Hospital site.

The discussion of the conditional use permit will be heard at the November 13 Planning Commission meeting at 6pm.  UPDATE:  Due to the expected high turnout, the Planning Commission meeting will be held at Rafer Johnson Junior High in the gymnasium.  The date and time remain the same.

For questions related to the City's process, contact Alex Henderson (897-6528).
Special Recognition
Congratulations to City employees Bob Stucky and Rob Bissett for their nomination and award of the City's employee recognition program.

The program is designed to allow residents, fellow employees, and peers nominate a City employee for special recognition for going above and beyond their normal job duties.

Rob and Bob, both employees of the water department, were specifically honored for their hard work and quick acting when the City was required to chlorinate the entire water supply in September.  Their ability to act quickly minimized the amount of time the supply was required to be chlorinated, and has led to the continued safety of our water.  Congratulations to both!
Fall Cleanup
The leaves are falling, the weather's cooler and that means it's time for the City's annual Fall Clean Up!  This year's event will be held at:
  • Mid Valley Yard; 1535 Ave. 392
  • 7:00am - 2:30pm

Residents are required to show proof of residency in order to participate free of charge.  Household hazardous waste will NOT be accepted as part of this event.

Election Update
The November election has come and gone.  While Fresno County's unofficial results are available online, the final certified votes will not be completed until all absentee and provisional ballots are accounted for by the County.  The County has 30 days to officially certify the November 4 election.
Campaign Signs
Now that the election is over, it's important to remember that all political signage must be removed in a timely manner, as required by City ordinance.

17.56.040 - Regulation of signs and outdoor advertising
Temporary Signs. Temporary signs, including official notices, campaign posters, and posters advertising community functions or events, shall be removed by the agency, official, or person responsible for their erection within seven days after the date of the advertised event or election.
