On October 22, 1962, in a televised speech of extraordinary gravity, President John F. Kennedy announces that U.S. spy planes have discovered Soviet missile bases in Cuba. During the next six days, the crisis escalated to a breaking point as the world tottered on the brink of nuclear war between the two superpowers. Eventually, the missile bases would be removed in exchange for a U.S. pledge not to invade Cuba.

On Tuesday, October 21, Crestwood Mental Health hosted an informal meeting to help answer questions related to their request to seek approval for a Mental Health Rehabilitation Center, to be located at the old Kingsburg Hospital site.
The meeting was held to help answer initial questions, address concerns and provide information on what is being proposed at the facility. Crestwood is working to schedule an additional meeting in the coming weeks.
Crestwood has applied for a conditional use permit to operate at the site, and the matter will be heard at the November 13 Planning Commission meeting at 6pm. For questions related to the City's process, contact Alex Henderson (897-6528).

The highly successful Kingsburg Launching Pad competition is back! The program, which helps entrepreneurs get jump started, is back for its second round. First developed in 2013, the top two finishers have opened businesses in Kingsburg (Mitt i Dalen, SportsFan Barber Shop).
All competitors receive free business planning assistance, with the winner receiving start-up assistance worth approximately $25,000.

The public is invited to attend an open candidate forum for the upcoming City Council election. The forum will take place on Wednesday, October 29 at 6:30pm at the Kingsburg Senior Center (1450 Ellis Street).
The forum is being sponsored by the Kingsburg Chamber of Commerce, and the candidates will be available to answer questions and make statements related to their desire for running for City Council.
