Quote of the Week
"Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."
This Week in History
On October 7, 2003, actor Arnold Schwarzenegger is elected governor of California, the most populous state in the nation with the world's fifth-largest economy. Despite his inexperience, Schwarzenegger came out on top in the 11-week campaign to replace Gray Davis, who had earlier become the first United States governor to be recalled by the people since 1921. Schwarzenegger was one of 135 candidates on the ballot, which included career politicians, other actors, and one adult-film star.
A Tasty Weekend
The Kingsburg Rotary Club's annual 'Taste of the Town' is this wekeend.  With several restaurants vying to be crowned "Best of", the event has become a local favorite.

This year's Taste will be held on Sunday, October 12 from 5:30 - 8:00pm at the Kingsburg Historical Park.

Those interested in purchasing tickets are able to do so by contacting any Rotarian member, as well as stopping into Kingsburg Insurance, Firecrest, or Sandra K. Helm CPA.
Pitching In
Several Kingsburg residents have volunteered their services to help clean up the Golden State Corridor from Kamm Ave. to Mountain View.  They're looking for anyone willing to help!  There are two available weekends:
  • October 18 & 25; 7:30 - 11:00am

Mid Valley Disposal is offering to dispose of the green waste free of charge, and volunteers  just need to bring gloves, tools, and the cleaning spirit.

Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to contact Maria Blackwell (897-4961) or Conni Delinger (970-4072).

Election Ahead
The November general election is coming up quickly.  Make sure you are registered to vote, and know exactly where your polling location is.

There are several voting locations in Kingsburg, and where you go to vote depends upon where you live in town.  For more information, visit Fresno County elections.
High Speed Jobs
Are you or someone you know looking for work in construction?  As the High Speed Rail project moves forward,  construction employers are working to find laborers to fill several job opportunity vacancies.

Those interested are encouraged to attend workshops in the area, including:
  • October 17 @ Sanger City Hall
  • October 24 @ Orange Cove Community Center

The workshops are from 9am - 12 noon on each day.  RSVP to attend - admission is free.

Show Your Support
The Kingsburg Fire Department is currently selling T-shirts to benefit breast cancer awareness.  The shirts, which include the KFD logo, bear the customary pink ribbon.

The shirts are available in both men's and women's sizes, and can be purchased for $15 at the downtown Fire Station.  Get them quick and show of your support all through October!
