Quote of the Week
This Week in History
On October 1, 1890, an act of Congress creates Yosemite National Park, home of such natural wonders as Half Dome and the giant sequoia trees. Environmental trailblazer John Muir (1838-1914) and his colleagues campaigned for the congressional action, which was signed into law by President Benjamin Harrison and paved the way for generations.  Today, over 3 million people get back to nature annually at Yosemite and check out such stunning landmarks as the 2,425-foot-high Yosemite Falls, one of the world's tallest waterfalls; rock formations Half Dome and El Capitan, the largest granite monolith in the U.S.; and the three groves of giant sequoias, the world's biggest trees.
Civic Duty
The November general election is just a month away!  Make sure you are registered to vote, and know exactly where your polling location is.

There are several voting locations in Kingsburg, and where you go to vote depends upon where you live in town.  For more information, visit Fresno County elections.
Best Taste
The Kingsburg Rotary Club's annual 'Taste of the Town' is just around the corner.  With several restaurants vying to be crowned "Best of", the event has become a local favorite.

This year's Taste will be held on Sunday, October 12 from 5:30 - 8:00pm at the Kingsburg Historical Park.

Those interested in purchasing tickets are able to do so by contacting any Rotarian member, as well as stopping into Kingsburg Insurance, Firecrest, or Sandra K. Helm CPA.
Meter Installation
During the October 1 City Council meeting, City engineer Dave Peters provided an update on the water meter installation project.  Peters noted that only a few installations and landscape repairs remained to close out the project entirely.

During October and November, staff will be closing out the project and calculating all final costs.  Residents will be notified of the billing in late 2014, but will not be billed for the meter installation until early 2015.

In addition, crews are busy replacing register heads on the 1,300 original meters in the City.  After they are installed, all of the City's water meters will be able to be read statically, to help improve efficiency and accuracy.
A Fair Race
Kingsburg will be honored at the Big Fresno Fair next Thursday, October 9 with a specific horse race named in honor of the City.

The Fresno Fair honors each of the communities in Fresno County for their efforts and contributions to the Fair, and to celebrate the agricultural heritage of the area.  Residents are encouraged to come cheer on the horses and enjoy a fun day at the Fair!
Utility Auto-Pay
As a new option, utility payments can now be paid through an 'auto pay' option online.  Residents can sign up using a debit or credit card, and the amount will be automatically deducted from the account when due.  This reduces the need to manually pay each month.

For those wishing to enroll, it should be noted that autopay takes effect the month following sign up (meaning the current month will not be debited automatically).  This is due to the fact utility bills are generated based upon the previous months' usage and the billing software utilized.  For more information, feel free to contact utility billing clerk Silvia Franco at 897-5821.
