Quote of the Week
This Week in History
On August 17, 1933, New York Yankees first baseman Lou Gehrig plays in his 1,308th consecutive game, breaking former Yankee Everett Scott's record for consecutive games played. Gehrig would go on to play in 2,130 games in a row, setting a record that would stand for over half a century. He was eventually diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a rare degenerative disease now often referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease.
#ALS

The City of Kingsburg got involved with the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, with Mayor Chet Reilly taking the challenge with the help of the Kingsburg Fire Department.

Mayor Reilly donated $300 to the cause, and passed the challenge along to local businesses Sun-Maid, Sacramento Container, and Kingsburg resident June Hess.

Pool Exercise
While summer swim may have wrapped up, the Crandell Swim Complex remains open for lap swimming and aqua aerobics.

Come join your friends and neighbors for a joint & muscle friendly workout.  Participants can pay for each session, so there's no worries if you can't make it to one.  See you in the pool!
Cross Street Work

Residents will soon begin to see work starting on the cross streets of Plumas, Lindquist, and Riverside between 20th and 21st Avenues.  The three roads were identified as in the most need for repair throughout the City.

Work will begin with sanitary sewer repair, and will include curb and gutter, as well as sidewalk improvements.  In order to save existing trees, both portions of Riverside and Plumas will be narrowed by approximately four (4) feet.  This may affect parking in the future, and residents in the area were informed via letter.

Land Sale
During their August 20 meeting, the City Council approved a purchase agreement with the Kingsburg Gun Club to purchase approximately 113 acres of land, located in Tulare County.

The City had recently entered into an agreement with another party, but the agreement was unable to be completed due to easement access.  The Gun Club is planning to install a large shot screen to ensure the longevity of their club for many years.
