City Council Meeting August 20, 2014 7:00 pm @ Council Chambers
|
On August 8, 1974 in an evening televised address, President Richard M. Nixon announces his intention to become the first president in American history to resign. With impeachment proceedings underway against him for his involvement in the Watergate affair, Nixon was finally bowing to pressure from the public and Congress to leave the White House. "By taking this action," he said in a solemn address from the Oval Office, "I hope that I will have hastened the start of the process of healing which is so desperately needed in America."

As part of the August 6 meeting, Council members approved a change order for construction of Plumas, Riverside, and Lindquist Streets between 20th and 21st Avenues.
The change orders were necessary to help redesign the curb and gutters to save 11-13 mature trees. The redesigns will narrow the roads by approximately 4 feet, and will include some changing grades of sidewalks to help facilitate a long term solution between infrastructure integrity and tree health.
Also mentioned at the meeting was that there are no current plans for the 21st Avenue street reconstruction or tree removals. While it's clear that a long term solution is required, any plans would include resident input.

As part of ongoing efforts to increase education and reduce overall water waste, the City will be conducting proactive sweeps of the City to make sure all water regulations are being followed. Residents who are out of compliance will receive a door hanger notification of corrective action. Continued non-compliance could lead to a monetary citation.
Here are a few helpful tips with regards to lawn watering:
- If you have one, talk to your gardener. They often may change settings with regards to days and times of watering.
- Shorten your watering intervals to three 5 minute sessions on your watering day, during allowable times
- Check your sprinkler heads regularly to make sure they're functioning properly
- Check connection points at faucets and pipes for leaks
Remember, every little bit helps.

 | National Night Out |
Thanks to everyone who came to National Night Out this past Tuesday night. The event was well attended, with food vendors, games, a dunk tank, bouncy houses and raffles!
The video shows local children working to "Knock Out Crime" - a pinata provided by the City's Public Safety Committee. The Committee meets regularly to discuss local issues, and helps promote Neighborhood Watch groups in the City.

During their August 6, 2014 meeting, the City Council provided direction to find a new location for a City off leash dog park. A "phase out" period of use at Erling Park will include new signage and an informational program to help educate users of the park.
Many residents turned out to voice their opinion during the meeting. After nearly an hour and a half discussion, the Council determined the City does have a need for an off leash dog park, but that Erling Park is not the correct setting.
For a period of approximately 60-90 days (signage to be erected at park), users can utilize the south side of the park as "off leash", but then will need to leash their dogs or discontinue use of the park. For more information, feel free to contact Alex Henderson.
