Quote of the Week
This Week in History
On July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Continental Congress adopts the Declaration of Independence, which proclaims the independence of the United States of America from Great Britain and its king. The declaration came 442 days after the first volleys of the American Revolution were fired at Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts and marked an ideological expansion of the conflict that would eventually encourage France's intervention on behalf of the Patriots.
Happy Birthday USA

The annual Kingsburg Independence Day celebration is here!  Held tonight at Kingsburg High School, come out for an old fashioned patriotic festival.   Food and fun for all ages starts at 6pm.  The fireworks begin after dusk.

City offices will be closed on Friday, July 4.  We will reopen on Monday July 7 at 8am.  Enjoy your weekend.

Jet Touchdown
The City was honored earlier this week with an F-15 jet dedication from the California Air National Guard's 144th Fighter Wing.

The ceremony pays tribute to the cities around the Valley that support members and the Wing.  Kingsburg was just the second City honored as part of the program, which displays the City's seal on the nose of the F-15.  Several City residents participated in the event, which included the dedication, base tour, and view of jets taking off and landing at the base.  More photos can be found on the City's Facebook page.
E-Waste Drop Off
Residents are now able to drop off e-waste for free, right at the City's yard.  New containers that are serviced by Mid Valley are located just next to regular garbage and recycling drop off.

In addition, this past week marked the first week of collection of all garbage, recycling and yard waste by Mid Valley.  If for some reason you did not have some/all of your old containers picked up, please contact City Hall at 897-5821.  We appreciate your patience as we work through this transition period.
Heat Safety
July has officially hit in the Central Valley.  That means long periods of potentially dangerous heat levels.  Make sure you follow a few tips to keep safe:
  • Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even with the windows down
  • Check on elderly, young, sick or overweight - they stand the highest chance of becoming ill from heat.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids even if you do not feel thirsty.
  • Slow down, stay indoors and avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day.

City Hall and the Police Department can serve as cooling centers for those in need.  Also remember to keep an eye on animals, making sure they stay hydrated and indoors during extreme heat.

Animal Control
With the warm days of summer here - the City recently improved our animal control shelter, located at the City yard.  New automatic watering dishes, misters, and tarps for shade are sure to help keep the dogs cooler during the hot summer days.

The City will assist with the pickup of stray/loose dogs and cats (when able).  For all other wild animals, residents are asked to contact the Wildlife Control at 272-0703.  Dogs are sheltered, fed, and given water at the City yard while volunteers work to reunite them with a family.
STAY CONNECTED

Collection Schedule

All garbage, recycling and green waste for Friday pickup will still be completed on July 4.
