Quote of the Week
This Week in History
Although accounts of an aquatic beast living in Scotland's Loch Ness date back 1,500 years, the modern legend of the Loch Ness Monster is born when a sighting makes local news on May 2, 1933. The newspaper Inverness Courier related an account of a local couple who claimed to have seen "an enormous animal rolling and plunging on the surface. Revelations of a hoax have hardly dampened the enthusiasm of tourists and professional and amateur investigators to the legend of the Loch Ness Monster.
A Safe Drop
It has finally arrived!  The City is now home to a safe place to drop off Rx medication.  The new kiosk is located just outside the Police Department main entrance, and can be accessed 24 hours per day.

The kiosk was provided by Healthwise Services, who services the container on a monthly basis, making sure all items are properly removed and destroyed.  The kiosk has been provided free of charge through a partnership between the City and the SKF Sanitation District.  Disposing of Rx drugs properly prevents:
  • Contamination of the water supply and local waterways
  • Misuse by those who the medicine is not prescribed to

You should never flush medicine down the toilet - just bring it over the the Kingsburg PD for free, anonymous disposal.

Spring Cleanup
The Kingsburg Community  Spring Clean Up is well underway!  The event will run through May 10, with the following times for drop off:
  • Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 4:00pm
  • Saturday (May 3 & 10); 7:00am - 2:30pm
  • Closed Sundays

You can bring a number of items, to drop off, ensuring they will be properly disposed of.  Residents will be asked to show proof of residency before being allowed to participate.

Festival Season
May has finally arrived - and that means the Kingsburg Annual Swedish Festival is just around the corner.  This year's festivities get started on Thursday, May 15.  Festivities include:
  • Swedish Pea Soup & Pancake Supper
  • Kingsburg Farmer's Market
  • Crowning of the Festival Queen
  • KPD Costume Contest
  • Dala Horse Trot
  • Swedish Pancake Breakfast
  • Entertainment and more

Come out all weekend and enjoy the 48th Annual Swedish Festival.

Beat the Heat
High temperatures have reached our area!  During extremely hot and humid weather the body's ability to cool itself is affected. When the body heats too rapidly to cool itself properly, or when too much fluid or salt is lost through dehydration or sweating, body temperature rises and heat-related illnesses may develop.  There a a number of ways to help avoid heat related illness:
  • Dress appropriately
  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Take breaks if working outdoors
  • Apply sunscreen to avoid burning

Don't forget to keep an eye out for those fury friends too.  Make sure pets stay hydrated and spend time indoors.

Outdoor Dining Workshop
During the April 16 meeting, the City Council tabled an item related to outdoor dining, scheduling a public workshop to discuss the existing ordinance and the proposal to begin serving alcohol in these designated areas.

The Council will hold this workshop on Wednesday, May 7 @5pm.  The regularly schedule meeting will begin at 7pm.
