Quote of the Week
"Whatever you are, be a good one."

. -- Abraham Lincoln
This Week in History
On April 22, 1970, Earth Day, an event to increase public awareness of the world's environmental problems, is celebrated in the United States for the first time. Millions of Americans, including students from thousands of colleges and universities, participated in rallies, marches, and educational programs.
Cleaning Weekend
Have you started cleaning yet?  Time to start!  The Kingsburg Community  Spring Clean Up is set to begin on Monday April 28.  The event will run through May 10, with the following times for drop off:
  • Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 4:00pm
  • Saturday (May 3 & 10); 7:00am - 2:30pm
  • Closed Sundays

Residents will be asked to show proof of residence before being allowed to participate.

Just the Facts
Many residents have been inquiring about the City's possible change of garbage, recycling and yard waste hauler.  Currently, the City contracts with Waste Management (WM) to handle these services.  The existing ten (10) year contract with WM is set to expire at the end of June, 2014.  As such, the City has requested proposals from interested contractors to ensure we remain market competitive on rates.

While no decision has yet been made on which hauler to select (proposals are due back April 25), we've compiled  resident Frequently Asked Questions to answer some typical questions.  For more information, feel free to contact Alex Henderson at City Hall.
What a Show
A big thank you to everyone who came out to support the 20th Annual Kingsburg Car Show. With a number of events held throughout the weekend, visitors had a chance to take in many attractions.  Some of the highlights include:
  • 306 individual car entries
  • 318 meals served during the pancake breakfast
  • 298 Spaghetti dinner served during the Kingsburg FD event.  This raised over $3,100 for the youth scholarships

Of course, this wouldn't have been possible without the work of the Chamber of Commerce, City staff, service clubs, and numerous volunteers.  Thanks to all those who helped - see you next year!

CDBG Celebration
Kingsburg was honored to be the host city for this year's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) celebration week.

Each year, Fresno County highlights a different community to showcase the projects and success through the use of CDBG funds.  Some highlights of the program in Kingsburg include 30 projects city-wide, with over $2.7 million invested in projects including:
  • Park and neighborhood facilities
  • Street and alley reconstruction
  • Sidewalk  improvements
  • Stormwater management
  • $750,000 in homeowners assistance

For 2014, the City will continue an ongoing street reconstruction project that has several phases, dating back to 2007.

Fruit Trail Market
Home to over 360 different crops, the Fresno County Fruit Trail offers visitors the chance to check out all the Valley has to offer.

Find out information about museums, festivals, and farmers markets.  In fact, the Kingsburg Farmers Market  is set to begin in only a few weeks.
  • Every Thursday; 5-9pm from May 15 - end of August held in Downtown Park
See you there!
