Quote of the Week
"Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th"

. -- J. Andrews
This Week in History
On April 14, 1865, John Wilkes Booth, an actor and Confederate sympathizer, fatally shoots President Abraham Lincoln at a play at Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C.  The attack came only five days after Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered his massive army at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, effectively ending the American Civil War.
Congrats Darren
During the April 16 regular meeting, the City Council confirmed the appointment of Darren Hays to the Director of Public Works position.  Darren has worked for the City in the public works department since 1990.  In 2000, he was promoted to Assistant Public Works Director, where he has led the department ever since.

Please help us to congratulate Darren on his recent promotion and thank him for his many years of dedicated service to the City.

All this plus great food and shopping on Draper provide a great chance to get out and enjoy the show!

Council Action
During their April 16 meeting, the City Council voted to hold a workshop related to outdoor dining, and the potential sale of beer/wine in these designated areas.  Once a date and time has been set to discuss this public hearing, a notice will be posted outside City Hall and on the City website.

In addition, the Council also voted to not allow the use of beer gardens during City regulated special events.
Train Depot
The City Council will be taking action to award the contract for the Train Depot at its May 7 meeting.  The most recent bidding process brought back two very competitive options to help get the Depot restored.

The Depot repairs are being funded largely by a Federal Highways grant.  The Friends of the Kingsburg Depot have also assisted with fundraising and refurbishment projects.

With the potential award on May 7, it's expected that construction work on the Depot would begin in June.
