This Week in History
On March 21, 1963, Alcatraz Prison in San Francisco Bay closes down and transfers its last prisoners. At it's peak period of use in 1950s, "The Rock, or ""America's Devil Island" housed over 200 inmates at the maximum-security facility. Alcatraz remains an icon of American prisons for its harsh conditions and record for being inescapable.
Mixed Use  
Residents will be seeing some new development along Marion Street in the next few weeks.  On March 19, the City Council approved a development agreement for a 46-unit mixed used senior housing development which will be located on the corner of Marion Street and Ellis Street. 

Construction on the development should be completed in approximately eighteen months.  The unit is set to bring affordable senior housing, while also meeting the aesthetic design requirements of downtown, and providing an opportunity for retail in one of our vital corridors. 
A Spring Thing
The Spring Community Clean Up is just around the corner!  There are a number of days you can take advantage of the event. The event days run from April 28 - May 10, with times for each day as follows:
  • Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 4:00pm
  • Saturday (May 3 & 10); 7:00am - 2:30pm
  • Closed Sundays  

Residents will have the opportunity to bring a variety of items:

  • Garbage
  • Recycling  
  • Electronic Waste
  • Green waste/Palm Leaves
  • Scrap Metal
  • Appliances

Residents will be required to show proof of residence to participate in the Clean Up.   

One Month Away
It's getting closer - the 20th Annual Car Show is just one month away. 

Held the third weekend in April, this year's festivities will take place on April 18 & 19.  Events this year include:
  • Friday Cruise Night;
  • 50/50 Raffle  
  • Senior Center Pancake Breakfast (Saturday morning 7-11am)  
  • Shopping, Dining, and much more!  

Come to downtown Kingsburg for another great year on the main streets of our Swedish Village.

KFD Dinner
Back again in 2014, the Kingsburg Fire Department will be hosting a spaghetti dinner on Friday April 18, in conjunction with the annual Auto Show.  The dinner will be held from 5:00-7:00pm at the downtown fire station.  Carry out orders will also be available. 

Tickets will be $10.00 each, and will be available at the Fire Department and City Hall beginning next week.  For more information, please contact KFD at 897-6531.
