Quote of the Week
"I didn't fail the test. I just found 100 ways to do it wrong."

--Benjamin Franklin

This Week in History
On March 12, 1933, eight days after his inauguration, President Franklin D. Roosevelt gives his first national radio address or "fireside chat," broadcast directly from the White House. At the time, the U.S. was at the lowest point of the Great Depression, with between 25 and 33 percent of the work force unemployed.  Roosevelt went on to deliver 30 more of these broadcasts between March 1933 and June 1944. They reached an astonishing number of American households, 90 percent of which owned a radio at the time.
Showtime
Save the date, mark your calendars - don't forget! The 20th Annual Car Show is just a little over one month away.

Held the third weekend in April, this year's festivities will take place on April 18 & 19.  Events this year include:
  • Friday Cruise Night;
  • Kingsburg Fire Department Spaghetti Dinner on Friday night; 5-7pm @ Station 1 (more info on tickets coming)
  • 50/50 Raffle
  • Senior Center Pancake Breakfast (Saturday morning 7-11am)
  • Shopping, Dining, and much more!

Come to downtown Kingsburg for another great year on the main streets of our Swedish Village.

Train Depot

The Historic Kingsburg Train Depot is getting closer to the repair process.  A bid for repairs on the building has been distributed to any interested party, with proposals due back by March 18.

The project is being funded by a Federal Transportation Enhancement grant.  It is possible that the grant may not cover all the repairs needed for the Depot.  As such, engineers have broken the bid out to ensure major portions are completed first.  It's expected that a bid award will occur in May, with work commencing in June.

Web Look
Ever wonder what some of the municipal codes are for the City?  A quick stop to our website will have you searching your way through City policies, regulations and guidelines.

There are a number of useful pages on our website - take a few minutes to look around.  Don't see what you're looking for?  Send us a note and we'll be sure to add it.
Safe Traveling
Don't look now - but Spring is just around the corner.  March 20 marks the Vernal Equinox, or first official day of Spring.

While the winter has been relatively mild, nicer weather means pedestrians and bicyclists will be hitting the road with more frequency. We ask bike riders to please ride single file to help ease traffic congestion.  Vehicles should also give bicycles plenty of room, and to acknowledge their place on our streets.

Safe habits by all help keep the road enjoyable for everyone.
Jobs Ahead
Get ready, the annual Department of Social Services Job Fair is coming up quickly.  On Wednesday, March 26, the largest employment event of the year will take place at the Fresno Fairgrounds (1121 S. Chance Ave.).

The job fair, hosted from 10am - 2pm, is open to the general public and often has an attendance of more than 10,000 job seekers.

Local businesses are also encouraged to attend - there are no participation fees or charges for employers to get involved and hire the right person for your organization.
