On February 25, 1964, 22-year-old Cassius Clay shocks the odds-makers by dethroning world heavyweight boxing champ Sonny Liston in a seventh-round technical knockout. Clay predicted victory, boasting that he would "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" and knock out Liston in the eighth round.

Unfortunately, the Sierra Street off-ramp on Highway 99 was the location of a deadly accident that occurred on February 17. The accident involved two California Highway Patrol officers responding to a separate crash incident.
Kingsburg Public Works, Police, and Fire Departments all responded to the events that took place that morning, and were also on hand to pay respects as the processional of the fallen officers passed by the accident site this past Monday afternoon. We say thanks to the many who risk their lives each day for the public benefit, and offer our condolences to the families of those lost.

With a heavy amount of rain on the way (hopefully), residents will be able to pickup sandbags should they have flooding concerns. The bags are provided free of charge to help alleviate flooding issues during heavy downpours, where City facilities may be unable to keep up with drainage.
Sand and sand bags will be available for self fill across the street from the Public Works Yard at the curve on Kern Street. We ask that residents leave the already filled sand bags for the elderly and those unable to fill their own bags. |

Did you know that 60% of private residences have some type of citrus tree in their yard? Do your part to makes sure the spread of Asian citrus psyllid doesn't continue. The pest carries one of the most devastating citrus diseases in the world - producing bitter, hard and misshapen fruit; ultimately leading to the tree's death. While federal, state and local agencies take action to suppress the spread of the pest, residents can help as well.
- Don't move citrus fruit in or out of
quarantine ares; - Inspect Citrus trees monthly; search for signs of HLB;
- Plant trees from reputable nurseries;
- Work with officials on detection and suppression efforts.
Find out more by visiting the Citrus Pest & Disease Prevention Program . If you think you may have the pest, contact the California Department of Food & Agriculture Hotline at 1-800-491-1899.
