Quote of the Week

This Week in History
On February 22, 1980, in one of the most dramatic upsets in Olympic history, the underdog U.S. hockey team, made up of college players, defeats the four-time defending gold-medal winning Soviet team at the XIII Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid, New York. The Soviet squad, previously regarded as the finest in the world, fell to the youthful American team 4-3 before a frenzied crowd of 10,000 spectators. Two days later, the Americans defeated Finland 4-2 to clinch the hockey gold.
Pancake Breakfast
Come out to enjoy an annual tradition - the Kingsburg Senior Center Annual Pancake Breakfast.  Held on Saturday, April 19 from 7:00 - 11:00 am, $4.00 buys you a breakfast with pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice!

The event, held in conjunction with the Annual Auto Show, is sponsored by Kingsburg McDonald's.  Tickets for the breakfast can be purchased at the Kingsburg Senior Center or at the door the day of the event (held at Kingsburg Senior Center - 1450 Ellis St.).

How Do I Get Rid of This?
While most items can be disposed of through recycling or regular trash, there are a number of household items that must be disposed of properly to avoid environmental damage.  Ever wonder how to get rid of batteries, motor oil, prescription drugs, or your TV?

The Selma-Kingsburg-Fowler County Sanitation District provides a quick run-down of several items, and how to properly dispose of them.  You can also visit CalRecycle for additional questions.
Bring the Scoop
The weather outside has been great lately (even though we still need rain).  That means walking pets and bringing them to the City dog parks has been a great opportunity to get outside and exercise.

Just a friendly reminder to make sure you pick up after your pets.  Picking up after your pet is the healthy, clean and neighborly thing to do!  Use those old plastic bags from the grocery store as an easy baggie for pickup.
Kingsburg Connected
There are a number of ways to connect with the City, through several forms of social media;

The City's smart phone app lets you connect to local businesses, report issues throughout town, and even search our local schools.  A great addition to keep Kingsburg while you're on the go - and it's free!

Transit Transition
Beginning on Monday, February 24, residents wishing to utilize the Fresno Rural Transit (RTA) service will see a new setup in City Hall.  The recent reorganization and technological advances of the transit system has centralized their services in Fresno.  As such, there will no longer be an in-person representative at City Hall.  Residents will, however, still be able to stop into City Hall and utilize a dedicated phone to call for a service pick-up.

The RTA will be distributing information throughout Kingsburg to help with the transition.  Users are also encouraged to call the toll-free 800-325-7433 to schedule service.
