Quote of the Week

Did You Know?
The first documented American reference to Groundhog Day dates back to 1841? If it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day, then spring will come early; if it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow and retreat back into its burrow, and the winter weather will continue for six more weeks.

An Awarding Evening
The Kingsburg Chamber of Commerce hosted their Annual Awards Dinner on Thursday evening.  The event offers an opportunity to recognize those individuals who've contributed significantly to the community over the past year.  Winners included:
  • John Matthew Perry; Junior Citizen of the Year
  • Craig Carpenter; Safety/Emergency Services
  • Barbara Mc Pherson; Educator of the Year
  • Aida rushing; Gold Seal Award
  • Evelyn Workman; Citizen of the Year
  • Sukhbir Dhillon; Business of the Year (Subway)

Congratulations to each of the night's recipeients for their contributions and giving back to the community!

Drought Smart
As all of us in the Valley knows - the Governor has declared a drought emergency, opening the doors for state and federal funding assistance.  And while we finally received a rain break yesterday, there is still a lot you can do as a homeowner to conserve water.

The City has specific rules in terms of lawn watering, but residents can also go above and beyond to help conserve:
  • Limit watering to one day a week in winter
  • Set lawn timers to five minutes or less
  • Consider xeroscape instead of grass

More information can be found by visiting the Department of Water Resources.

Don't Throw That Out
As part of the City's effort to enhance overall recycling goals, we've partnered with Waste Management to help improve recycling efforts at commercial facilities around Kingsburg.

Residents have the chance to recycle even more - keeping waste out of the landfills.  There are several items that we don't often think of that can be recycled:
  • Yogurt lids;
  • All plastics (#1-7)
  • Pizza boxes
  • Cereal boxes

These are just a few of the many items you can recycle.  Residents can put all items in the same container.  Interested in a larger recycling container?  Contact City Hall at 897-5821 for more info.

Carry It On
Please help inform residents and neighbors of the weekly Kingsburg Carrier! Let them know to sign up by forwarding this email so we can sign them up!  You can also visit the City's website to signup today.
60 and Up
Did you know Kingsburg has a very active Senior Center?  With daily activities right in the downtown, getting involved has never been easier.  With over 200 current members, those young at heart can participate in exercise opportunities, card games, bingo, and much more.

For more information on the Senior Center, contact Community Services Coordinator Ashlee Schmal at 897-6549.
