AHA UPDATE

After Many Hours on the Phone....
Health Insurance Options for Undocumented People

A couple of wonderful volunteers spent hours on the phone (and on "hold") recently, helping AHA figure out where someone could purchase health insurance if they did not have a social security number. The results were surprising!  Thanks to their efforts, AHA's Coverage Work Group just completed a paper entitled "Private Insurance Options for Undocumented People," (click the title to download a .pdf)  that we hope will save you hours on holdThank you to our volunteers, Deanna Chavez and Bonnie DeHart, and to all the work group members and other partners who helped get this done.  If anyone is aware of additional health insurance options for undocumented people, AHA would love to hear about them.  Contact us at [email protected].

AHA Senior Circle and Aurora Commission for Seniors

Did you know that the City of Aurora has a Commission for Seniors?  Their mission is "to enhance the quality of life of the senior population in Aurora by supporting current programs and promoting the development of new ones."  AHA's Senior Circle has been invited to meet with the Commission to explore how we might learn from, learn with, and support one another.  We're having a joint meeting in mid-September.  We'll let you know what happens.

You can learn more about the Commission by clicking here.

Compassionate Collaboration Leads from Tragedy to Triumph

On August 14, the Aurora Sentinel reported on the network of Aurora citizens, including Rich McLean (AHA Board) and Lizzy Sinatra (Community Campus Partnership), who initiated a fund-raising campaign on behalf of Eduardo Franco Ramirez, who needed cranioplasty surgery to repair an injury sustained when he was beaten and left for dead.  University of Colorado Hospital agreed to do the surgery for the amount raised, which fell far short of the actual cost.
