Dance Class Open to The Arc's Program Participants
This fall, Ashland's Affirming Arts is excited to offer a dance class tailored
 to showcase the abilities of people with special needs ages 16 and up. "The class is so much fun!" said on self-advocate who participated in Ashland's Summer Program. "We laughed a whole lot and got a great workout." Over the past 3 years, Ashland's Affirming Arts has offered a free dance workshops three times a year to The Arc's adult activities participants. "It only seemed like the natural step to add a class like this one to our fall roster" said Ashland's Affirming Arts owner, Ashley Landry-Breaux. The next free dance workshop will be Tuesday, August 30th from 8:00 pm to 8:45 pm.  This is the same time slot that the new dance class will take place this fall.  ~ Learn More ~ 
Advocacy Training Session Prepares Southeast Texans for Upcoming Legislative Session 
On Tuesday, July 19th over 20 parents and professionals  gathered to learn how to make a difference in the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through legislative advocacy. The Arc of Texas' Director of State Advocacy, Ginger Mayeaux, facilitated the session.  Training participants learned effective advocacy skills, reviewed how the Texas legislative system operates, learned the importance of communicating with local legislators, discussed the issues that The Arc of Texas will focus on during the upcoming Texas legislative session, and assisted in developing a plan for effective advocacy within Southeast Texas. ~Learn More~ 
STAR Kids Informational Session Coming to Beaumont

Join the Texas Health and Human Services Commission on Thursday, September 15th to learn about the transition of various Medicaid services to the STAR Kids managed care program.
Beginning November 1, 2016, the STAR Kids managed care program will provide Medicaid benefits to individuals with disabilities 20 and younger who receive Supplemental Security Income Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income and Medicare, receive services through the Medicaid Buy-in for Children, live in a community-based intermediate care facility for individuals with an intellectual disability or related condition (ICF/IID) or nursing facility, or are enrolled in home and community-based services waiver programs. Information sessions will provide details on eligibility, program benefits, participating managed care organizations, and more.

Science Day Delights Children
On Friday, July 1st The Arc of Greater Beaumont hosted a Science Day at The Arc's NEW Multi-Purpose Building.  Children ages 5 to 12 were able to attend this fun, educational day.  Each child was given a lab coat and their own equipment to conduct experiments.  Kids enjoyed making elephant toothpaste (as pictured), growing worms, and slime.  Science Day was part of The Arc of Greater Beaumont's Summer Programs.  The Arc's summer programs are available thanks to supporters of the annual Beaumont Buddy Walk

Register for 5th Annual Beaumont Buddy Walk
Join us on Saturday, October 22nd for the 5th Annual Beaumont Buddy Walk. The Beaumont Buddy walk is one of over 250 walks held across the country to raise awareness and funds for programs that benefit people with Down syndrome and their families. The one mile walk begins at 10:00 am and will take participants around downtown Beaumont.  Come early to enjoy kids activities, informational booths, music, and dancing.  Get a group together and register a team or, join a team to support one of our honored walkers. Self-Advocate Spotlight

Todd Guilbeaux was recently elected Chaplin of Southeast Texas Self-Advocates.  In this role, he is responsible for opening and closing each meeting with a prayer.  Todd attended Westbrook High School and was an integral part of the Westbrook Drum Line, performing at football games and special engagements. Todd loves to dance, enjoys fine dining, listening to music, and watching Westbrook football games.  Todd lives in a group home with his friends.  His favorite part about being in The Arc, the dances.
