Support Down Syndrome Awareness at the Beaumont Buddy Walk!

The Beaumont Buddy Walk teams have been working hard to raise funds for the 3rd Annual Beaumont Buddy Walk.  This years walk is

scheduled for Saturday, October 25th at the Event Centre located in downtown Beaumont. The walk begins at 10 am. Get to the Event Centre early for all the fun and festivities! It's not too late to sign up to walk for this years Beaumont Buddy Walk. You can join a current team, register as an individual walker, become an event volunteer, or get a group together and form a team of your own!  For more information click here, email [email protected], or call (409)838-9012. Jay Bruce Golf Benefit Saturday November 15th!
Golf FORE a cause at the 5th Annual Jay Bruce Golf Benefit at Bayou Din Golf Club. The event will include a four-person scramble, free food and beverages, contests for longest drive, closest to the pin, and hole in one, a helicopter ball drop, and a silent auction.Proceeds benefit The Arc of Greater Beaumont and Life Skills department at West Brook High School. Become Informed Before You Vote!
Disability Issues Forum ask candidates how they would assist individuals with disabilities in Texas if elected.
In September, state agencies that work with individuals with disabilities
put together a disabilities issues forum to ask the candidates for governor, lieutenant governor,and attorney general how they would assist individuals with disabilities in Texas if elected. The Forum organizers sent the questions to each of the candidates in order to learn about their stance on disability issues. Ashland's Affirming Arts Dance Company invites The Arc of Greater Beaumont's members to participate in The Ashland's Cup!
 
Join Ashland's Affirming Art's Dance studio on Friday, November 14th for a dance workshop!  At the workshop, participants will learn a routine that will be performed at The Ashland's Cup on 
Saturday, November 15th.  The Ashland's Cup is not only a fun event but, is a fundraiser supporting Ashland's Scholarship Fund, Buckner's Children & Family Services, and The Arc of Greater Beaumont.  For additional details click here, call

Healthy Eating for Individuals with Down Syndrome

National Down Syndrome Society launches online health & wellness site. 

Good nutrition is the foundation to a healthy life.  The National Down  Syndrome Society (NDSS) has launched an online campaign to promote the health and wellness of children and adults with Down syndrome.  Parents and children will learn how they can work together to build a strong "feeding relationship" to ensure healthy eating habits are developed early.  Adults with Down syndrome will learn the importance of weight management.  NDSS has tips and trick on how adults with Down syndrome can control their weight and live a long and healthy life. Ever wonder where money raised at the Beaumont Buddy Walk is going?

Did you know that money raised at the Beaumont Buddy Walk creates funding for The Arc of Greater Beaumont and supports the efforts of the National Down Syndrome Society? Here are some stats on how money from the Beaumont Buddy Walk has served individuals with Down syndrome and other intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD):

  • Since October 2013, over 300 residents in SETX have benefited from The Arc of Greater Beaumont's programs and services.
  • Since October 2013, The Arc of Greater Beaumont has provided over 8,800 service hours to individuals with IDD and their families in SETX.
  • Over 30 new and expecting parents of children with Down syndrome have received Baby Baskets provided by the The Arc of Greater Beaumont Down Syndrome Family Group.
  • Over 30 summer education grants have been given to children with IDD to help with their continued development during the summer months.
