A Brief Review of The Arc's Summer Programs

The Arc of Greater Beaumont had a great summer. 30 children and teens enjoyed a week full of recreation and socialization at the Arc Summer Safari Day camps. Over $1,700 in summer stipends was given to children and teens with intellectual and developmental disabilities for summer services they would not otherwise have been able to receive.  In conjunction with Spindletop Center and DARS, the Arc started running a Vocational Adjustment Training program. The Arc, in conjunction with Region 5 Education Service Center held a day long conference with key note speaker Dr. Stephen Shore.  The special screening of the anti bullying movie The Senior Prank was viewed by a packed theater that included the executive producer and director of the film (see picture). Following a successful summer, the Arc has some great activities scheduled this fall including, the start of an Autism Support Group, the second annual Beaumont Buddy Walk, and the fourth annual Fall Festival. To stay connected please make sure you are signed up to receive emails from the Arc and "like" arcofgreaterbeaumont on facebook for up to date information on Arc programs as well as informational and inspirational stories.

The Arc Community Resource Library Now Open
Online or in person find the answers you are looking for.

The Arc of Greater Beaumont is proud to announce the opening of The Arc Community Resource Library. This library is intended to provide information about intellectual and developmental disabilities to the SETX Community. We offer both an online library and a comfortable reading room where you can browse our online library or borrow one of our books. This library is both for and from the SETX community.  We have put together a great set of resources but, we are looking for YOUR help in adding to this selection.  In the Arc's library, we have a binder for parents, educators, and professionals to write down any contacts, tips, tricks, and important information they would like to share with those who visit the library looking for answers to questions on intellectual and developmental disability services in our community. Visit the online library from the comfort of your home or, stop by our resource library located in the Foundation for Southeast Texas building. For details, view the printable flyer or call (409)838-9012.

The National Autism Center
Providing a Parents Guide to Autism and Evidence Based Practices
The National Autism Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) by providing reliable information, promoting best practices, and offering comprehensive resources for families, practitioners, and communities. The center is guided by a Professional Advisory Board and brings concerned constituents together to help individuals with ASD and their families pursue a better quality of life. One of the largest undertakings of this center is the National Standards ProjectThe primary goal of the National Standards Project is to provide critical information about which treatments have been shown to be effective for individuals with ASD. The project examined and quantified the level of research supporting interventions that target the core characteristics of ASD in children, adolescents, and young adults (below 22 years of age) on the autism spectrum. The center has taken the findings from this project and put together a Parents Guide to Autism and Evidence Based Practices.  The center is offering this guide free of charge to parents on their website. For more information on the National Autism Center and to watch a video on what to expect from the Parents Guide to Autism and Evidence Based Practices click here.  (Information provided by the National Autism Center's Website)
