Arc Summer Day Camps for Kids & Teens
Sponsored by Angels for Autism of SETX

In June, members from Angels for Autism of SETX presented the Arc with $10,000 to fund two, week long summer day camps.  Arc Summer Camps are unique in the fact that they offer individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities a chance to enjoy a week long camp full of fun recreational activities and socialization. Group games, arts & crafts, basketball, volleyball, soccer, and bowling are only a few of the great activities scheduled for camp. Camp counselors are all experienced teachers/aids who have worked with kids with intellectual and developmental disabilities for years. Kids Camp (ages 5 to 12) is July 15 thru July 19th. All slots are full but we are still looking for volunteers for camp.  Teen Camp (ages 13 to 21) is August 12th thru August 16th and is currently accepting applications. Click here for details and registration information.

BridgingApps
"Bridging the gap between technology and people with disabilities."

BridgingApps is a organization of parents, therapists, doctors, and teachers.  The group has formulated a program to teach how mobile devises can be used to maximize the potential of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  They believe you should focus on the person who will be using the technology rather than the devise itself.  With this focus, BridgingApps, in partnership with Easter Seals of Greater Houston, has developed an interactive website for parents, teachers, therapists, doctors, and individuals with a disability to visit.  BridgingApps also holds seminars to teach people the value technology can bring to an individual with a disability. Visit the BridgingApps website for more information. If you would like to know more about the organization,  BridgingApps will be at the Overcoming Obstacles Conference on Saturday, August 24th.

What does it mean to be a member of The Arc?
The Arc of Greater Beaumont is a membership based organization.  As such, we rely heavily on the support of our active members for the organizations continued growth.  Currently, the Arc is providing services and information to over 750 people but, only 150 are "active members."  An active member is someone who has filled out a completed membership form and paid their yearly dues (starting at only $25.00 for an individual $35.00 for a family per year).  By becoming an active member, the Arc will be better able to provide you with information pertinent to your needs. Your financial support helps the Arc continue providing services like Arc Adult Social Club Events, Family Fun Nights, and Self Advocate activities. Active Arc of Greater Beaumont members will automatically become members of The Arc of Texas and The Arc of the United States and will receive important advocacy information from The Arc of the United States and The Arc of Texas. To become an active member of The Arc of Greater Beaumont or to renew an expired membership please click here or call (409)838-9012.

The Arc brings "The Senior Prank" to Beaumont
An inspiring anti bullying movie about a teen with Down syndrome in High school.
The Arc of Greater Beaumont is excited to announce a screening of the feature film "The Senior Prank" in Beaumont on September 5, 2013. This is an anti-bullying film about a group of popular high school students who elect a girl with Down syndrome as prom queen, as a prank.  There will be one screening of the film the evening of September 5th 7:30 pm at Tinseltown Theaters.  This is a great opportunity for student organizations and youth groups to learn the importance of accepting all individuals regardless of their differences.  For more information on "The Senior Prank" visit their facebook page or, watch the trailer. The Beaumont screening was underwritten by Mandie & Dr. Garrett Peel. Tickets are $5.00 a piece and can be purchased by calling The Arc Offices at (409)838-9012.
