A support group for families of children with Down Syndrome

In 2012, the Arc joined forces with a group of parents of children with Down syndrome to form The Arc of Greater Beaumont Down Syndrome Family Group. Through an active facebook page, meetings, and family outings the group is able to provide social events and support for families of children with Down syndrome.  In 2012, the group worked hard to bring to Beaumont its first ever Buddy WalkŪ. The Buddy WalkŪ is a nation wide project established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. The 2012 Beaumont Buddy Walk was a huge success. With the help of over 1,000 walkers it raised $70,000. In 2013, the group will begin making "baby baskets" to be delivered to parents of newborns with Down syndrome in Southeast Texas. For more information on The Down Syndrome Family Group please call (409)838-9012, email teri.hawthorne@arcofbmt.org, or visit their facebook page

The Arc to Open Resource Center
Looking for parent and educator resource recommendations.
The Arc of Greater Beaumont is excited to announce the development of a resource center at the Foundation for Southeast Texas Building.  This resource center will be unique in the fact that it will offer books, videos, software, information, and other resources specifically for the IDD community.  It is the Arc's hope that parents, families, and even IDD consumers can visit this center and find information they so desire.  The center will host a comfortable reading area, informational videos, and a computer with Internet and Microsoft Office access. The resource center has been made possible through funding by the Mamie McFaddin Ward Heritage Foundation.

It is our hope that with the help of parent and educators we can make this center the place to go in Southeast Texas for questions about IDD.  We are currently looking for recommendations from parents and educators of online, in print, or electronic media that has helped you in your search for answers about IDD.  We would also like to offer information on programs and services available in SETX for individuals with IDD. If you have information you feel would be beneficial to this resource center please call (409)838-9012 or email arcofbmt@arcofbmt.org
