April 14, 2013 - Heritage Sunday

We celebrated our church's birthday on Sunday, blowing out some 156 candles (figuratively)!

Our guest preacher was Rev. Russell Peppe, who served as our pastor from 1962-1964. His sermon, "She Met Jesus at the Well," reminded us of important spiritual places in the Bible...and the special 'place' our church building has as the center of our worship today. The sermon was concluded with a meditative solo, "The First One Ever," sung by Liz Phillips. You can view his sermon and her musical message here.

Sunday's Music:

We were blessed today to sing "The Lord's Prayer" as part of our service.

Quality music is part of our heritage, and Beryl and our Senior Choir provided the desired musical inspiration.
  • Prelude:  "My Jesus, I Love Thee" (arr. Bish)
  • The Senior Choir, directed by Beryl Samia:
    "Jesus, My Jesus Loves Me."
  • Congregation: "The Lord's Prayer"
These selections are available on our Sunday Music page.
Potluck Heritage Dinner
Honors Rev. Lamar & Elaine Robinson

The food was fine and the memories were priceless. Our guests of honor, Rev. Lamar Robinson and his wife Elaine, served this church for more than 20 years from 1970 to 1993. They were joined by a group of members who had been at our church for 50 years of more - to remember 'how it was back then.'

There were wonderful memories of those bygone days, but a single thread wove its way through the narratives - though our predecessors have passed away, the congregation, in an important sense, remains the same - welcoming newcomers to our little church by the sea.
Ads on our website video

YouTube, where we store our videos for free, is now running ads - from time to time - over our videos. That's something over which we have no control.

There's a phrase that might apply: "Just grin and bear it," but in this case a more appropriate phrase might be: "Just frown and bear it."

I'm looking into how to defeat those ads.
Next Sunday
7 p.m.

We celebrate Earth Sunday with a 70-minute prize-winning documentary entitled
"A Chemical Reaction."

It tells the story of how one woman's voice caused a significant and effective response to chemical pesticides and herbicides.

Chime Choir Resumes

Thursday, April 18th at 5:30p Chime Choir rehearsals begin.

St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Kennebunkport has honored us by inviting our chime choir to play at their
