As is our long standing tradition, SLES will host Veterans Day programs on both of our campuses.

JAPONICA CAMPUS PROGRAM
The Japonica Campus Program will begin at 9:30 in St. Luke's Episcopal Church.   Please extend a special invitation to family members or friends who are veterans or are currently serving and invite them to join us  for our special program.  Our fifth graders will be providing a special presentation to honor our veterans.

UNIVERSITY CAMPUS PROGRAM: The University Campus Veteran's Day Program will begin at 8:00 am in the Moorer Center for  Performing Arts .  Please extend a special invitation to family members or friends who are veterans or are currently serving and invite them to join us for breakfast and for our special program.

This year's guest speaker is Dr. Barry Booth.  Dr. Booth joined the Marine Corps in 1966 earning a Gold Parachutist Device, the U.S. Navy Unit Commendation, and the Vietnam Service Medal among others.  He was honorably discharged in 1969. At age 60, after the terrible events of September 11th, 2001, he attempted to rejoin the Marine Corps, and had to be officially denied.  Dr. Booth was vital to the establishment of the  Honor Flight South Alabama program, the establishment of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park, and the creation of the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery.  He was named the 2009 Veteran of the Year by the Mobile Bay Veterans Day Commission and Fairhope, Alabama's Veteran of the Year for 2011.

BOOSTERTHON IS BACK!
MAKE PLANS TO JOIN US FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13th

BOOSTERTHON IS HERE and the KIDS are HAVING A BLAST!!!

We kicked off our Boosterthon FUN RUN days with a huge pep-rally for students on the Japonica Campus and the kids (and teachers) enjoyed the high energy and enthusiasm displayed by our Boosterthom team of Z and Josh!

The students are meeting with Z and Josh every day to learn more about building character through sports and fitness and are travelling around the world while they do it! They are gearing up for the upcoming FUN RUNs!

If you don't have a Lower School student find one you can pledge! Pledges are made on a per lap basis and the kids will each try to run between 30-35 laps.  Your pledge of any amount supports their efforts to support St. Luke's and encourages them to do their best!

We encourage you to join us for their runs...cheer them on in a BIG WAY with signs, noisemakers, etc.  THEY LOVE IT and you will too!
ANYBODY CAN GET ONE!
Two years ago, during the midst of the HUMP DAY craze, St. Luke's made international news when we brought a camel to campus.   This year, we actually arranged to have TWO camels on campus for our Homecoming Day surprise.  BUT, the surprise was on us... we built the excitement with messages and signs along the roadway, we had the media scheduled to be here and we were here bright and early to meet our camels. It got closer and closer to THE TIME and still no camels!  It turns out, our camels weren't even en route! The transport truck was stuck in Florida and the camels were still relaxing in the fields!    It was a big let down because we KNEW how much our kids would have enjoyed it (not to mention the thousands of morning commuters on University Blvd.)! We even had a costume for Mr. Notaro to wear when he rode the camel onto the stage to kick-off our pep-rally!
Oh well, we are certainly up to the task of another surprise.  Keep your eyes open!
