January 2017 Reinvestment Report Statistics
Oklahoma Main Street Program (OKMSP) requires all its Main Street cities to submit Monthly Reinvestment Reports in order to maintain their status. If Main Street Bartlesville (MSB) misses 3 reports, it will lose access to the free services provided by OKMSP, including architectural and business development services, training, and much more.

The purpose of the reinvestment report is to show the investment being made in downtown, both private and public. The information collected includes renovations and new construction, properties sold, businesses coming into and those leaving downtown, new jobs and jobs lost. Volunteer hours are also included in this report. All information provided to Main Street Bartlesville for the report is kept confidential.

For January 2017, $255,000 in renovations was invested. One new business opened and one closed, for a net gain of one new job.  A total of 145 hours was put in by Main Street volunteers.
Cumulative numbers since Main Street Bartlesville's inception in October 2010:  $18,453,364 private investment (renovations, new construction, properties purchased); 277 jobs added and 69 businesses opened (net); $739,400 public investment; and 23,704 hours put in by Main Street volunteers.

Main Street Bartlesville's mission is to work inclusively with the community and resources to plan, develop and promote an economically thriving downtown district. We strive to create a unique center of our community by preserving and enhancing our historic legacy, creating a focus for local pride and a destination for residents and visitors.

Don't hesitate to let us know how we are doing.

Sincerely,

Beth Anderson, Program Manager

Downtown Business, Property Owner Finalists for State Main Street Awards
Bartlesville program up for
'Community of the Year'

Two Bartlesville organizations have been named as finalists for the Oklahoma Main Street Center's annual statewide awards competition, and Bartlesville is one of 10 communities vying for the "Community of the Year Award," Oklahoma Main Street announced recently.

The Hilton Garden Inn is one of three finalists for the "Premier Partner" award, while Chris Dizmang's CR Anthony Building is one of four nominees competing for the "Best Faade Rehabilitation over $10,000" award.

The winners of these and several other awards will be presented during the 28th Annual Main Street Awards Banquet set for May 9 at the Embassy Suites OKC Downtown/Medical Center Hotel.

"The Oklahoma Main Street Center Awards Banquet celebrates the communities, people and events that make the program thrive," said Buffy Hughes, Oklahoma Main Street director. "There are 21 competitive award categories representing the Main Street Four Points, and 19 different programs are in the top three of each. We are always excited to see so many projects, events and people highlighted by the local programs. It is a joyful time for all involved in Main Street."

Each award category falls under one of the "four points" in the Main Street Approach: Organization, Promotion, Economic Restructuring, and Design. Panels of outside judges for each point review the entries and determine the winners.

The "Community of the Year Award" will recognize the Main Street program that earned the most quality assurance points during the 2016 calendar year. The top 10 programs include Bartlesville, Altus, Duncan, Guymon, Hobart, Newkirk, Okmulgee, Ponca City, Prague, and Wilburton. The top program will also be announced at the banquet.

McCoy Building, LLC to Receive Citation of Merit Award

Downtown Bartlesville has another rehabilitation project that has been selected to receive a Citation of Merit Award.  The Oklahoma Historical Society has selected McCoy Building, LLC to receive their 2017 State Historic Preservation Officer's Citation of Merit. The Citation of Merit is awarded annually to individuals, organizations, agencies, and firms that have made important contributions in the preservation of Oklahoma's rich heritage.  The McCoys will be presented the award on June 28th at the Preservation Future Tense: Oklahoma's 29th Annual Statewide Preservation Conference.

Curbside Closet Relocates to Pioneer Building

It's time for a refresh, and Curbside Closet has done just that.  In response to the growing online shopping trend, Co-owners Desiree Clabaugh & Erin Perry have decided to expand their internet presence and minimize their store footprint, so the ladies have relocated their store to a petite location on the first floor of the Pioneer building located at 319 S. Dewey Avenue.

The boutique focuses on combining classy and funky fun fashions to fit every female body type.  By creating a Curbside Closet website the ladies hope to expand on the Instagram following they already have and create an online shopping experience  geared  towards making women feel good about themselves  and helping those women find clothing that flatters their figure. The website is scheduled to launch in April.  In the meantime, be sure to drop in and check out their fun new location.

Update: Downtown Landscape Task Force

2nd Street and Dewey Avenue Streetscape Project.

In our February issue we reported that that the City Council established a Downtown Landscape Task Force to validate and refine the Downtown Landscape Plan developed by Main Street Bartlesville as presented to City Council in May 2016. In addition, the group will develop the final design for the 2nd Street and Dewey Avenue landscape project. In keeping with the Plan, the Task Force will determine both short-term and long-term funding sources for downtown landscape maintenance.

The task force has been meeting every Tuesday at 11:00am in the small conference room behind the City Council chambers at City Hall.  The conceptual design has been revalidated and Randy Weatherly (Ambler Architects) and Micah Siemers (City Engineer) are taking the lead on preparing bid-ready documents by April 17th City Council meeting. The Task Force is also beginning to discuss the pros and cons of various options for both short-term and long-term maintenance funding.
