MEA Break
MEA break is this week. There will be no school for students tomorrow and Friday (October 20th - 21st). We hope you enjoy a little extra family time and some fabulous Fall weather. We're looking forward to seeing everyone again on Monday, October 24th.
Honoring our Veterans Our school will be honoring Veterans and those currently serving our country on November 9th. All scouts are invited to wear their uniforms if they'd like. If you are a scout leader who is interested in having your troop or den participate in the school assembly please contact me. On behalf of Mr. Westgard and our entire school, we'd like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to those serving our country and the sacrifices their families make as well.
*If you have a relative who is a Veteran or active-duty please invite them to join us as a V.I.P. at 8:30am for small reception (coffee and cookies) preceding our school-wide assembly that begins at 9:00am on November 9th. Visitors and their distinguished guests are asked to bring a photo ID to assist with our new check-in process. If you are not a veteran or on active-duty you will be able to view the assembly from home or work via a live-stream link that will be shared at 9:00am on our school's hashtag #GWgreats. The web-based link will be available HERE.
In gratitude, Brad Gustafson, Principal

Volunteers Needed for Upcoming Time & Talent Auction
|
Two volunteers are needed to organize an upcoming "Time & Talent" auction. This auction allows staff and parents to donate their time and talent to be used as a fundraiser along with community business donations. Previously, our Time & Talent auction was held during Carnival. This volunteer opportunity is a great way to get to know the broader group of Greenwood teachers, staff, and parents. For more information, contact Michelle at michellemterry@gmail.com.

Legislative Action Committee Update
|
The Wayzata Legislative Action Committee (LAC) met recently at the District Administration Building. The September Legislative Candidate Forum was discussed and can be viewed at www.wayzata.k12.mn.us/LegislativeAction. The LAC will continue to build positive relationships with the district's legislative candidates through coffee and conversation meetings this month. These meetings will be held at Birchview Elementary so that candidates have the opportunity to visit the district's new Blue Ribbon school.
Guest presenter at the meeting was Scott Croonquist, the Executive Director of the Association of Metropolitan School Districts (AMSD). AMSD is a nonpartisan advocacy organization that supports the interests of public school students across the Twin Cities metro area. Mr. Croonquist shared a preview of the 2017 legislative session as well as a draft of AMSD's legislative platform. Top priorities include stabilizing funding so that existing programs can be maintained before adding new programs, maintaining local control and increasing special education funding to decrease districts' reliance on the general fund to pay for these important and mandated services. The Wayzata LAC will use what we learned from Mr. Croonquist as we begin to create the district's legislative platform.
