THURSDAY FOLDER
News & Information for Greenwood Elementary

11/6/14
FROM THE DESK OF MR. G
We're adding some new music programs and learning experiences for students this school year. The first new program is right around the corner. We will be gathering as a school on November 11, 2014 to honor our Veterans. Students will be singing songs and a special program will be led by our music teacher, Mr. Westgard. The PTA is partnering with us on this experience and also hosting a reception for families with Veterans or relatives currently serving. If you have a Veteran or current servicemember in your family you are invited to join us in person at the assembly on 11/11/14. Please click HERE for the program  details. All scouts are invited to wear their uniforms as part of the Veterans Day Program, and our scout leaders should have been provided information on how to get involved. **We need to ensure that all of our students and Veterans have enough room to gather in our gym...for this reason we will be live-streaming the assembly to Greenwood families that would like to be a part of the experience.

This week our 5th Grade "Kids in Community Kare & Service" (KICKS) crew created our weekly podcast. Their goal is to raise awareness of our first service project of the year. Be sure to check-out the video and send extra Halloween candy to school tomorrow (Friday). It will go to a great cause! I want to give a special shout-out to all of the 5th grade students that have given up part of their recess time to dedicate to the Candy for Troops project. We've got a great group of kids working together. Be sure to stop by their bulletin board outside Mr. Zetah's classroom for details on their latest efforts. Collectively, the kids are doing amazing things.

Innisbrook Pick up is Monday
A reminder that orders will be available for pick up on Monday, November 10th from 3:30 to 7:00 pm. Drive up service will be available at the front of the school.  Questions regarding Innisbrook?  Contact Shauna Woolf at [email protected].
Last Call for Candy for Troops
Tomorrow is the last day to donate unwanted Halloween candy for our troops. KICKS students will be available before school in the front hallway. The candy will be given to the Minnesota Armed Forces Service Center at the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport. Military personnel that stop by the Service Center will receive a goodie bag filled with candy and a letter from our KICKS students. Thank you for supporting our military with your candy donations!
Emergency Contact Information
Has your emergency contact information changed? If so, it is important that you update this information in Skyward Family Access. In an event of an emergency, your child is hurt or ill, the health office needs to be able to contact you. Current phone numbers also are important when your child is absent. We want to make sure your child is safe and accounted for.

Parents and Guardians have the ability to update and add email addresses, change passwords, and update phone numbers in Skyward Family Access. For instructions, click here.

Box Tops
CALLING ALL BOX TOPS!!  Please turn in your unexpired, neatly clipped Box Tops, especially those that expire on 12/31/14.  Look for labels on your food/paper products, office supplies and Hanes apparel.  Put them in the Box Tops rolling cart in the front hallway at school.

Greenwood's goal this year is $2,000 (20,000 Box Tops).  Each unexpired label that's mailed in to General Mills will earn 10 cents.  THANK YOU for supporting Greenwood Elementary School!
Thank You
Sharon, the Wayzata district nurse in charge of health screening, and I would like to thank the over 40 volunteers who made the health screening possible.  This is a great service provided by the district that identifies children who need further evaluation by a physician for hearing or vision difficulties.  This would not be possible without all those who volunteered their time.

Thank you!
Linda Grey (health screening coordinator)
Proud to be part of
