MCA Testing

Thanks for your support and encouragement of our students this past week.  Third through fifth graders have been working extremely hard on the MCA Reading tests.  These tests are very important.  We encourage you to check in with your child to remind him/her to carefully read each question and encourage their best effort.  Next week, we will begin the Math testing process.  Teachers have been assigned classroom testing times based on computer/lab access.

Communication Update

This is a busy time of year!  Everyone is working hard to provide students a positive and strong finish to this year; while plans are already underway to prepare for a successful 2013-2014 school year.  Building construction continues, and we look forward to more cooperative weather in the very near future.  This communication is intended to update you on some of the plans that are underway.

As a result of the new classroom construction project, our school's capacity is increasing.  With this increase in space and enrollment we are excited to hire additional staff.  In addition to new hires, position changes can occur each year for a variety of reasons including:  employees returning from leaves of absences, internal district transfers, grade-level reductions, resignations, etc.  Next year we are projected to have the following number of sections in each grade-level:

EDK - 3 Sections

1/2 Day Kindergarten - 3 Sections

1st Grade - 6 Sections

2nd Grade - 5 Sections

3rd Grade- 6 Sections

4th Grade - 5 Sections

5th Grade - 6 Sections

At this time we already know of some changes and have begun to advertise for open positions.  I will provide additional information after staffing for next year is finalized (typically closer to the summer months):

  • In Kindergarten, we will have two EDK teaching positions posted.
  • We plan to add a 1st grade section and have one position posted.
  • The four new classrooms being constructed have been assigned to the 1st grade team.
  • Mrs. Christina Skoglund will be transferring to the 3rd grade team.
  • Mr. Kyle Moody (who was hired late last summer to address an enrollment increase) will be returning along with Mr. Joel Martin to the 5th grade team.
  • We have posted four 5th grade teaching positions.
  • We have posted an Art teaching position and have started the interview process.
  • Mrs. Heather McGinnis (our current Greeter) has been recommended for hire as a PLC Para.

We're very excited about the new gym and classrooms and hope things will progress in a manner conducive to a successful start to next school year!  We will do everything possible to support transitions that occur and to welcome staff new to grade-levels or new to our school.

Construction and staffing is always a dynamic process, and I will send an update later as things progress.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Kind regards,

Brad Gustafson, Principal
