Morning Drop-Off & Parking Changes

Beginning December 10th, we will be implementing changes to our parking lot and morning drop-off procedures.  Please familiarize yourself with the changes below, as we anticipate them lasting the duration of the year.  A map reflecting the changes is attached, and will also be posted to the Greenwood Website.

Any parent wishing to walk their child into school (or Home Base) will need to park their car in the front parking lot and enter the main doors of Greenwood Elementary.  The parent drop-off parking loop near the Home Base doors will be closed.  We will be reserving several additional parking spots near the front of our school to accommodate parents wishing to park and then walk their children to Home Base.  Please do not use the spaces reserved for Handicap Parking as drop-off spaces.

Any parent wishing to drop their child off (without exiting their vehicle) may do so using the same drop-off lane currently in place.  However, the drop-off lane will now be "one way only" and exit through Peace Lutheran Church's parking lot.  (Students being dropped off may still enter the Home Base doors; however their parents may not exit vehicles.)  Please stay in your cars, pull up to the curb to drop your child off, and then proceed ahead (one way only) and exit through the Peace Lutheran lot onto Medina.  Students should be instructed to have backpacks and belongings ready in advance of vehicles stopping.  This will contribute to an expedited and orderly traffic flow for families.

A staff member will be supervising the drop-off lane each morning and assisting students as needed so parents do not need to exit vehicles.  The school district will be plowing a path through Peace Lutheran's lot in the event of snow.  Special thanks to Pastor Andy and his team at Peace Lutheran for so generously sharing their parking lot with us during construction season.  **Construction equipment and heavy trucks should NOT use the Peace Lutheran exit.

Safety is our first priority, and we ask that all parents refrain from allowing their children to cross the drop-off lanes from Peace Lutheran.  (No running across the drop-off lane from the Peace Lutheran Parking lot.)  There are a few special instances where crossing this street has been pre-approved by the office, and these students will be escorted by school staff members.

The regular morning school bus lanes and busing times will remain the same.  Do not use the front entry of the school as a drop-off lane and please keep away from buses and students exiting buses.

Please carefully monitor your speed and always be extra attentive anytime you are driving near the school and through the Greenwood or Peace Lutheran parking lots.  Please leave extra time and plan ahead.  While we are excited to partner with Peace Lutheran to minimize disruption to parents' morning drop-off routines, we do anticipate some delays.  Working together we can make this exciting building construction/addition process safer.

Thanks for your cooperation,

Mr. Brad Gustafson, Principal
