Got Character?

We have some exciting things planned for Greenwood students this year!  Next month our school will hold our first Character Education Assembly.  This will be an exciting time for our entire student body to gather and celebrate many of the positive things happening in our classrooms each day.  The theme of the assembly will be trustworthiness.

Our school will also be embedding anti-bullying curriculum into some of the assemblies, and next week our school social worker and I will visit each classroom about this important topic.  You could support your child's learning at home by reviewing the elementary description of bullying with your child.  (We have adopted this from the research-based Olweus program.)

"Bullying is when somebody repeatedly and on purpose says or does mean or hurtful things to another person who has a hard time defending himself or herself."

The most impactful component of our discussions about bullying will be the strategies we will empower all students with. (These will be strategies that they could rely upon if they observe bullying now or anytime in middle school, high school or adulthood).  We encourage students to follow the "Stop, Walk, Tell" steps.  Bystanders play an important role in maintaining a safe learning environment, and we'll be encouraging all students to take a stand!

Introducing our new Office Paraprofessional

If you've visited the Greenwood office this past week you may have noticed a new friendly face...Mrs. Denise Stricker has joined the front office team and is replacing Mrs. Deb Musser who is now working in the High School's counseling office.  Mrs. Stricker has two children (one in elementary and the other in middle school) and comes to us with both corporate communications experience and paraprofessional experience as well.  She has done a fantastic job transitioning and will continue supporting students, staff and families alongside Mrs. Cathy Panzer.  Please join me in welcoming Denise to the Greenwood family!

Best regards,

Mr. Brad Gustafson

JUNK FOOD WALK

The most popular game at the Carnival will be back again this year!  To make this a success we will need your generous donations of salty snacks, sweet snacks and LOTS of 2 liter bottles of pop or soft drinks.  Not sure what to buy?  Ask your child!  Please bring your items to the Greenwood office.

ADOPT-A-PET

The ADOPT-A-PET room was a great success last year! Help us offer it again this year by donating your gently used stuffed animals. They can be dropped off in the Greenwood office.

Amazing Media Center Volunteers Needed!
Media Center volunteers work between the hours of 7:40 a.m. to 2:25 p.m.  A weekly commitment of one to two hours is ideal, but any amount of time is appreciated.  Our schedule  runs through the last day of the. school year.  Primary responsibilities include:  shelving materials, straightening shelves and occasionally dusting.  During the later part of the year, volunteers will be needed to help with inventory.

Contact Linda Gibbons at linda.gibbons@wayzata.k12.mn.us  to volunteer.

Pastries with Parents - Thank You!

Thank you to parents who got up bright and early last week to share a muffin or doughnut with their child!  A total of 144 muffins and 693 doughnuts were consumed.  Thanks also to the parent volunteers (and children) who helped make this event a success - Amy Albert, Becky Jones, Tami Karban, Kelly Larsen, Pam Christensen, Stephanie Schon, Heather Schrader, Kallie Spalding, Kim Lawrence, and Susan Lehr.   Thanks you also to Caribou Coffee (Medina, Rockford Rd. & Lunds locations) for donating the delicious coffee.  We appreciate all the Greenwood staff for support as well!
