January 2013

Greetings!

The Illuman Council of Elders Announces

A New  Phase for our Men's Work

It is with a measure of excitement and gratitude that the Center for Action & Contemplation (CAC) and Illuman announce the transition of the MALEs program from the CAC to Illuman.

The MALEs program is dedicated to supporting men who want to deepen their spiritual journey in community with other men. Over 5,000 men have participated in the "Journey of Illumination" by attending events such as the Men's Rites of Passage (MROP), FIRMings and a variety of local and regional events. As the MALEs program grew from its New Mexico origins to 9 international Regions and 13 US Regions, it became clear that the program needed a new infrastructure to support the continued growth.

In 2011, Fr. Richard Rohr and the Center for Action and Contemplation initiated a process to develop the best approach for moving ahead. Since that time, and with the support of Fr. Richard and the Center for Action and Contemplation, a group of initiated men with international representation has initiated a separate tax exempt organization called Illuman.

The work started by Fr. Richard Rohr is now set to continue and grow under the stewardship of Illuman. As we move forward, Fr. Richard's attention is directed to building and launching the Living School. He will continue to speak on the topic of male spirituality and continue to be honored as the founder of MALEs.

The CAC and Illuman have forged a strong partnership and while now "officially" separate, we are committed to working together in support of each other's mission. As we effect the transition of the MALEs program, Illuman is working hard to create the organizational structure and processes that will allow the MALEs program to flourish. In the immediate future you can expect:

  • That the MALEs programs will continue to be offered in the various regions;
  • A formal launch of Illuman in mid-March.

Updates about Illuman and the MALEs program will continue to be presented in the Drumbeat.  To stay informed about The Living School, please register to receive the CAC's newsletter at:

We ask your continued prayer for and blessings upon both the CAC and Illuman.
