DEDICATED TO
STUDENT SUCCESS ACADEMIC INQUIRY ENGAGED LEARNING
|
As fall semester draws to a close and we prepare to grade those final projects and exams, I wanted to pause and thank you for another successful semester. We saw tremendous growth in every area of University College this fall -- the number of students we serve, the cadre of both part-time and full-time faculty members, Integrative Studies majors, grant funding, and more. By every measure, we continue to be a college moving forward -- at an institution that is also changing rapidly. We will need to continue to be flexible, inquisitive, and optimistic as we head into spring semester and beyond.
This is the time of year to reflect on all we have accomplished even as we plan for new opportunities. I'm looking forward to seeing you Dec. 17 as we cheer our newest Integrative Studies alumni!

Interim Dean Hoerrner appears on Owl Radio's "The Spotlight with John Pledger" |

Keisha Hoerrner appeared on Owl Radio's "The Spotlight with John Pledger" Nov. 21 to discuss various topics including her time as an undergraduate at Kennesaw College as well as her roles as a faculty member and now Interim Dean of University College.
The show, designed specifically for students, has a purpose of removing the stigmas associated with KSU's faculty and staff as being authoritative and unapproachable. Pledger's goal is to help students realize that professors and staff want to help them succeed -- a philosophy that closely mirrors University College's goals.

Thrivers walk to bring awareness to homelessness as part of HAW
|
Congratulations to the Thrivers for their planning and implementation of the recent Walking Home event. More than 200 students attended and participated in the walk on the Campus Green.
In collaboration with Homelessness Awareness Week (HAW), Thrive students planned this event that required participants to walk the Green five times with each lap offering a different
type of experience such as carrying ice, walking without shoes or being blindfolded. The goal was to educate walkers about the realities of homelessness.
Laila Smith, Center for Student Leadership's Operations and First-Year Leadership Manager, expressed her level of excitement. "The walk was absolutely incredible! As challenging as it was to coordinate and facilitate four learning communities, I think I can speak for the other learning community faculty (Hillary Steiner, Jen Wells and Monica Gerda) when I say it was well worth it." read more
