November 12 - Veterans Day: A Salute to Leadership
Veterans Day was established by proclamation of Woodrow Wilson in November 1919. As he established the holiday, he said:

"To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations."

Veteran of World War II and Computer Pioneer
"Leadership is a two-way street, loyalty up and loyalty down. Respect for one's superiors; care for one's crew", says computer programming icon Grace Hopper. Without her contributions to the information technology field, you would not be reading these words right now. Chapter 18 of The Leadership Muse tells us how to lead with Grace appreciating the leadership of your superiors and appreciating the followership of your people.

Here's an interesting video tribute to Vice Admiral Grace Hopper.

"A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent."

-- General Douglas McArthur
