Beverly High's award-winning robotics program is about to kick-off the 2016 competition season on January 9th, but they need YOUR HELP!

BHHS is looking for adults who would be interested and available to work with our robotics students starting in January!

COMPETITION:  January 9th & 10th (Saturday and Sunday); thereafter as many afternoons (after 3:00 pm) and evenings and weekends for a few weeks.

WHY:   Most successful robotics teams have an entire group of adults helping out just the build section, usually volunteering their time!  So, Beverly High is looking for some community members who have a background in design or engineering to help out the school. We have some really great parents that support the team but it rarely is on the engineering side...

WHERE: Beverly Hills High School Woodshop

Please contact Cindy Dubin asap at if you are available or to refer us to someone. We also have a stipend available for a consultant for someone interested in a substantial number of hours from January to mid-February, as well as some competition travel to Ventura and Las Vegas at the end of March and beginning of April.

"How can I transition my kids to the idea of a nanny being the one there for them every day?
(And how can I transition myself to that idea!)"
Choosing the right nanny for your family is key. As a parent myself, I understand the importance of hiring a nanny that will be a positive influence in the children's lives. Nanny duties can include the following: tending to each child's physical and emotional needs, meal planning and preparation, children's laundry and clothing care, organization of activities and outings, providing behavioral guidelines and disciplining when appropriate, and transportation when required.
Proper interviewing of a nanny is extremely important. When describing your family expectations, be specific about duties, hours, salary, time off, etc. Remember to listen to your intuition. Be prepared to ask the right questions to tune into your feelings, since feelings are usually a good indicator in choosing the right nanny.
Once you hire the nanny, here are some tips to help make the transition a smooth process for both you and the children:
1) I recommend working the first couple of days together with the nanny to help the children adapt to the new situation. This allows time for proper orientation to show the nanny the routine, get familiar with the house and ask any questions. Take her around your neighborhood, go to local areas of interest for your children, and introduce her to your neighbors. This initial time together will give you a feel for each other and for your respective styles of child rearing and structuring the day. It will also give the nanny and your children time to get acquainted without the stress of an abrupt transition.
2) Talk to the children about special things they can do with the nanny that are fun, different and new - for example, a new craft project, baking something fun or a new book or toy that is reserved for time with the nanny.
3) Once you're ready to head back to work, consider starting on a Wednesday, rather than a Monday, so that your first week apart won't seem so long. This will make the transition of being apart a little easier on you and the children.
4) After you have returned to work, you may want to invite the nanny to stay for a bit when you get home to participate in a little family time. This way the children will see that you are developing a relationship and rapport with each other, which can be comforting to the children. This also prevents a drastic separation in nanny time and parent time.
5) You may want to ask the nanny to text you a picture of the kids from time to time, to help you ease into the new transition. You could also text her a quick "selfie" to show to the kids which may help to alleviate any separation anxiety for them as well.
Nanny Connections has specialized in the placement of nannies, mother's helpers, household managers and infant care specialists since 1998. We provide a safe, detailed service that eliminates the time-consuming investigative work a successful search requires, and we provide protection from exhausting phone calls and public exposure generated through self-placed ads or online websites. We pride ourselves on the attention to detail that goes into our placement process. We view our success on the quality of candidates we represent rather than the quantity. It is our goal, first and foremost, to facilitate a successful, long-term placement on your behalf with an ideal nanny who meets your requirements. For more information on hiring a nanny please contact Sandra Luban at 424-332-6900 or email
