RV with Purpose

With the longest day of the year just around the corner, I'm sure your days are full of the things of Summer! Between weddings and graduations, I hope you've found time to splash with the grandkids, reconnect with friends and family, and spend some time kickin' back and relaxin'!  Whether you're busy working at your home commitments, or enjoying the energy of one of our Summer SOWER projects, I hope you've had a chance to read through the June Sowergram.  As hard as it is to believe, it's already time to start sign-ups for the winter months, so get your lottery requests in by July 13th. And don't forget about the Trustee elections coming up. I hope you've read through the resumes of the 5 folks nominated to serve on the Board of Trustees. Ballots need to postmarked by July 1st, so don't delay! I encourage everyone to take the time to pray about these nominees and vote. The Board appreciates all who have willingly offered to serve, and rests in the knowledge that the LORD already knows what next year's Board of Trustees will look like.  May HE get all the praise and glory!

Don't forget to check out all of the ministry opportunities available this summer. Our northern projects are open and eager for the blessing of having YOU come and serve there!

Resting in His Grace, Thankful for His Mercy,

Camp Bighorn

Camp Bighorn

We are so encouraged that Camp Bighorn has joined the SOWER Ministry Family! We have volunteered there since 2010. The summer program consists of Day Camp, Youth Camps, Adventure Camps, Family and Group Camps, and a camp for Special Needs Youth and Adults. We've been especially blessed to be part of those Special Needs Camps. We've watched summer staff grow in their love of the Lord as they encouraged handicapped youth experience the different elements of a summer camp. The Camp for these special needs campers is in its 6th year, and includes one camp week of ages 18 and under and the 2nd week of adults, the oldest camper being in his 60's. Some have never been away from home and to see the joy in their eyes as they rafted down the river or were assisted in climbing a ropes course was an inspiration to us. A few are severely handicapped and have to be fed, diapered and bathed and each special youth staffer assigned to each individual camper as a buddy cares for most of their needs.

The summer staff rotates duties as each new group of campers come in. We have seen staffers mowing lawns, cleaning buildings, preparing meals and presenting a Chapel programs. One presentation was regarding Jonah and the Whale. They began the presentation with a pirate song. I (Dee) had observed their initial preparation as I sewed drapes in the same room the Chapel Staff was pulling a program together. We couldn't understand how they all knew the song by that evening. We soon realized it was a Veggie Tale song and this group of young people were part of the "Veggie Tale" generation. A raft became the whale and "Jonah", a young female staffer was inside the "whale" to be spewed out as she jumped out to illustrate this scripture. Not one, young or old could forget this message of obedience to God and God's saving Grace.

We encourage SOWER couples to consider Camp Bighorn located on the Clark Fork River (guys bring your fishing poles). It is not far from Flathead Lake as well. It is also within approximately two hours of Glacier Park, plenty of time for a day trip.

Join us this summer!

Barnabas on the Lake

Have you ever wanted to be part of a dream?  To a handicapped child Camp Barnabas is a dream. But, how would you feel if you were to learn that there is no more room at Camp Barnabas?

Well!  There is something you can do!  Barnabas has purchased a new facility right on Table Rock Lake near Branson, Missouri.  There will be room for many more handicapped children----that is as soon as Barnabas On The Lake is made handicapped accessible. Right now Barnabas On The Lake is a beautiful isthmus reaching out into Table Rock Lake.  There is water all around and it is a beautiful place, but it needs your help!  The RV sites are in and they are ready to accept Sowers to help to make the upgrades necessary to make the dream of a handicapped child come true. Barnabas on the Lake

Come and prepare to enjoy the beauty and wonder of Barnabas On The Lake and the amazing Branson area.  Put a great big smile on the face of a handicapped child.  Give that same child an opportunity to meet with Jesus in this enchanting place and to learn to trust Him for a future which right now is not very bright or exciting.  We have the blessing and opportunity right now to be able to turn this camp into a haven for these children.

Project Sponsors - Bob and Billie Wakeman (#3114) and Jim and Eula Fluckey (#2635)

Barnabas on the Lake (MO-524) has 4 SOWER spots and is open for workers July through October 2015.

Dear Sam and Sally
Servants on Wheels Ever Ready

We received our Trustee Ballots with the Sowergram, but we have a question. We are always puzzled about how we can vote for Trustees when we don't know any of them. Can you help with some ideas on how to know who to vote for?  Thanks!

That's a really great question!  It does seem hard to make an "informed" decision since our membership is spread throughout the country, and the chances of having worked with all the candidates is slim indeed.   So where do you start? Well, each resume is full of information, like the total number of projects they have worked and how much experience they have had as GLs. It gives a general review of their "previous lifetime" occupation along with positions they have held in church and para-church organizations.  It also attempts to give some insights into their desire to serve the Lord through a position on the SOWER Board of Trustees.  While the resumes are no substitute for personally meeting the candidates, it does do a good job of helping to introduce them.  If you have questions about anything that they have written, give them a call!  Taking the time to read over and pray about the information available can make all the difference - and help you make a God-based decision.  Thank you for taking the time to vote!

In His Service,

Sam & Sally

Supplying our needs

This is a testimony of how the Lord supplies our needs.  As we were leaving a recent project the turbo on our truck blew. The repair was going to cost $2300 and we just didn't have it. That night I woke up around 2AM and the Lord spoke to me about not being too proud to ask for assistance.  So I went right to the computer, opened up my Facebook page and stated our situation. At 7 the next morning I got a phone call from a friend saying that he put a check for $1000 in the mail. By the end of the day, two more calls had come in, each offering $500!  We made it to our granddaughter's where we were visiting for the week between projects. While we were there I was able to help out at the church (her husband is the youth pastor there) by doing some maintenance. As we were getting ready to leave, the church gifted us with a check for $500! That was over and above what we needed for the turbo, but the Lord had a plan for that too! We had a hose blow as we were leaving and that repair cost exactly what was left from the turbo repair. God is so good - not only for supplying for our financial needs, but also giving His Son so we can have eternal life through Jesus Christ.

I love sharing Jesus!

Don't forget to check out the Project Locator (Google Earth) on the Members Only page.  It's a great help in scoping out project locations, especially if you're trying to "bundle" projects to cut down on travel time (and fuel costs!). Maybe there's one near you that you could work this summer!
A note from the office -
The internet is being a bit wonky in Lindale, so if you have sent in a project request and have NOT heard back from the office within a week, please contact them again. Thanks!
