SOWER Ministry Newsletter

June 2013

Greetings!

The longest day of the year is just around the corner, and I'm sure your days are full of the things of Summer! Hopefully you've found time to splash with the grandkids, reconnect with friends and family, and spend some time kickin' back and relaxin'!  Whether you're busy working at your home commitments, or enjoying the energy of one of our Summer SOWER projects, I hope you've had a chance to read through the June Sowergram.  As hard as it is to believe, it's already time to start sign-ups for the winter months, so get your lottery requests in by July 15th. And I hope you've read through the resumes of the 5 folks nominated to serve on the Board of Trustees. Ballots need to be in the office by July 1st, so don't delay! I encourage everyone to take the time to pray about these nominees and vote. The Board appreciates all who have willingly offered to serve, and rests in the knowledge that the LORD already knows what next year's Board of Trustees will look like.  May HE get all the praise and glory!

Resting in His Grace,

2013 Midwest Michigan SOWER Reunion
Monday, Sept. 23 thru Thursday, Sept. 26
MI-139 Michindoh Ministries
4545 E. Bacon Road
Hillsdale, Michigan 49242

An excellent guest speaker, music, auction, book exchange, and other activities are planned. Cabin space is limited, and we don't know which 6 will be available, so plan on coming with your RV. Those fortunate enough to get a cabin may want to share it with another Sower couple.  We will keep a waiting list open and available for cabin requests in case of a cancellation, so that the next on the list will be notified of the availability.  Costs for the reunion are as follows (same as last year):

Meals per couple:   $60.00 (5 meals @ $6.00/ea)

Registration:          $25.00 per couple

Cabin rate:            $25.00

RV Campsite:         $0.00 (That's right - FREE!)

We will be taking only one offering, for Michindoh.  All other expenses including speaker and entertainment will be covered in the budget.  Plan now the auction items you will bring. Please remember the auction items are to be worthwhile items another Sower would consider valuable.  Also consider the testimony you may want to share regarding your ministry and service as a SOWER.

Please contact John Crandle at jmcrandle@sbcglobal.net for more information, to volunteer, or with additional questions.  Reservation forms and information sheets will be emailed to all known Mid-western Sowers very soon.  We are looking forward to seeing YOU at Hilltop!

Faithful Servant Retires
Lake Wales Care Center  (FL-157)  hosted a retirement reception for Ben Newcomer at Warner University on May 19, 2013. Ben was our beloved Sower contact from 1996 to 2012. Our 4th project was at Lake Wales (Dec. 1997) where we first worked with Ben and have been blessed to work with him many times since. He held other positions for seven years in Lake Wales area, including director at H.E.A.R.T.  (FL 427) before joining the Care Center. Ben and Mary Jane were missionaries in Honduras before coming to Lake Wales and he took many short term Mission trips during his 24 years there. The Bensons and the Hawvers  (#2779) represented Sowers.

A Note from a Host -

We at Macedonian Christian Academy (TX-499) are so thankful to the Sowers' Organization -for their contribution and service to our ministry in God's name.

For twenty-six years MCA has been discipling young people throughout the Rio Grande Valley for God's service. Helping young people and families develop close relationships with Jesus Christ has been our focus. God has blessed our efforts, and we have seen much fruit from our labor.

For twenty-five of the last twenty-six years, MCA has been located on 1 acre of land. On this one small acre there is a main school building, a house, six portable classrooms, two trailers, three storage buildings, and a playground. As you can imagine, we enjoy togetherness.

After so many years at one facility, God is allowing our ministry to expand! Lord willing, we will be going from 110 students to 240 students over the next several years. In order to do this, we will need to build our new facilities. We are so thankful for the Sowers' groups that came down in January and February and helped us with the dirt work and the foundation, installed a chain-link fence, finished our family discipleship pavilion, sewed hundreds of chair covers and table clothes, and did a huge amount of maintenance at the current facility!

It was absolutely amazing to see these lovely servants filling in the gaps with the skills God had given them. We could not have asked for a better team either month.

In July we are planning to erect the metal building and frame its interior.  Of course after the framing, we will be running electrical, plumbing, and HVAC, as well as putting all the finishing touches on it. We are praying for many Sowers' volunteers to come and be a part of this special construction project.

We realize that God is in control and that He has a plan. Of course we cannot see how this building could be completed by August, 2014, without major involvement from Sowers' volunteers, but only God knows who will sign up and who will come.

We are praying for several Sowers to be with us from September till April. We specifically desire those with specialties in electrical engineering, plumbing, mechanical engineering, and framing.

I know God will bring us exactly who he wants to be part of this milestone team. Please prayerfully consider serving in South Texas with Macedonian Christian Academy!

Check out the Project Listing for more details - MCA has spots for 10 SOWERS each month, from September through June!

The SOWER Area Reps are the dedicated folks that check out and check-up on projects in their area.  From time to time different A.R.'s will be sharing some "up close and personal" information about projects in their area.  Here is one from Wayne and Dorothy Farquhar, our Canadian A.R.s -

Project 490 - MB - TURTLE MOUNTAIN BIBLE CAMP

TMBC is a non-denominational Christian ministry, 1 of 43 camps across Canada that is owned and operated by the Canadian Sunday School Mission (CSSM Ministries).   TMBC is the most recent Canadian Camp to become a SOWER Project as of 2011.  It is located in Manitoba, Canada, just 5 km. (about 3 miles) from the North Dakota border, making it very accessible to both Canadian and American SOWERS.  The Directors, Howard & Kathy Weir, have been serving the Lord in Christian camping for more than 30 years.  The camp operates from mid-June to the end of August, so volunteers are especially needed in May and June to get the camp ready for the summer ministry; and in September, to help close up the camp for the winter.  Being in a farming area, although many churches and individuals are interested in the camp ministry, it is extremely difficult to find volunteer help as spring/summer/fall is the busiest time of year for the farmers' livelihood, with seeding, spraying and harvest.  The Weirs confess that "the camp workload can become overwhelming at times, and any assistance is a tremendous encouragement and help in carrying the load."

TMBC has 4 fully functional RV sites reserved for SOWERS, that can handle small or large RVs; and Internet access is readily available.  Camp ministries always have a continual variety of work and this one is no exception!  From grounds work to maintenance, upgrading of buildings (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc.), and mechanical work on equipment, there are no end of jobs for the men.  And the ladies would be a huge help with cooking, laundry, gardening, office work, and cleaning.

Turtle Mountain Bible Camp

The camp has over 90 acres of land that border the north and east shores of Partridge Lake (freshwater - with no alligators or fire ants!!).  During the summer, the camp is in full swing!  There are 9 air-conditioned cabins that each hold 10-12 campers, with 2-3 counselors per cabin.  A new centralized washroom facility was built in 2007.  The main building contains a chapel/dining hall and includes the kitchen and offices.  Recreational facilities include a craft shop, covered archery area, climbing wall, recently built horse stable with indoor and outdoor riding arenas, and a very popular zip line. They have a waterfront area at the lake that includes a beach, shallow and deep-end swimming areas, a water slide, canoes, and recreational water equipment (boat, kneeboard, wakeboard, tubes, and water skis), all supervised by qualified life-guards.

Pictures and a map of the Camp are visible on their website:  www.tmbc.ca .  Please pray about volunteering at TMBC in the near future!  It will be an experience you will never forget - and the Lord will bless you for all your labours!

Dear Sam and Sally SOWER,
Dear Sam and Sally
Dear Sam and Sally,
Now that it's time to cast our ballots for new Trustees, we have a question. We are always puzzled about how we can vote for Trustees when we don't know any of them. Can you help with some ideas on how to know who to vote for?  Thanks!

That's a really great question!  It does seem hard sometimes to make an "informed" decision since our membership is spread throughout the country.  And it's not like these dedicated folks go around campaigning!  So where do you start? Well, each resume is full of information, like the total number of projects they have worked and how much experience they have had as GLs. It gives a general review of their "previous lifetime" occupation along with positions they have held in church and para-church organizations.  And it attempts to give some insights into their desire to serve the Lord through a position on the SOWER Board of Trustees.  While the resumes are no substitute for personally meeting the candidates, it does do a good job of helping to introduce them.  If you have questions about anything that they have written, give them a call!  Taking the time to pray about and read over the information available can make all the difference - and help you make a God-based decision.  And thank you for taking the time to vote!

In Him,
Sam & Sally

I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices;  my flesh also dwells secure. For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption.

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
