Greetings!

It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes, or bags. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. Maybe Christmas doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas he thought means a little bit more...

During this holiday season I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our supporters, volunteers and staff who give so generously of their time, talent and resources. Together we serve the medical, dental, behavioral health and medication needs of our community, making a difference in the lives of so many. Despite changing tides in healthcare, the Augusta Regional Free Clinic and the Augusta Regional Dental Clinic remain vital and significant forces in the health safety net. Our services will continue to impact our friends and neighbors in need well into the future, creating hope for a healthier tomorrow.

Throughout the coming year, we will be commemorating our 20th anniversary with special events, and we invite you to share in the celebration of our accomplishments and commitment to the community. It is hard to believe the Free Clinic has been in existence for two decades. Now, more than ever, we need your help to continue our mission to provide access to quality, compassionate health care to the underserved.

Earlier this month, the Clinic received a referral for a breast cancer patient who delayed treatment because of lack of access and high expense in a region without an Every Woman's Life Program. Clinic staff was immediately able to coordinate the patient's necessary care and the cost of treatment, as well as offer education and support in her fight against this formidable disease. Just yesterday, Dr. Harrison, a long-term volunteer orthopedic surgeon, mentioned to me how much it means to him to be able to provide care at the Clinic, and how he considers it a privilege to serve. Maybe the Free Clinic too means a little bit more...

Wishing you a joyous holiday season and a healthy and prosperous New Year!

Thank you for your patience while we place the finishing touches on our renovation project of the former dental clinic to address the growing demand for programming, volunteer and administrative office space. By transforming the treatment rooms to usable office space, we are able to house the expanding Women's Health Program into one area suitable for both staff and volunteers, provide an office for a new Social Work Program collaboration with Mary Baldwin College, and have offices for administrative volunteers. As a result of the improvements, we were also able to relocate clinical staff to better serve our patients, facilitate enhanced communication, and reinvigorate the main administrative area that had been well loved and well used in its capacity as the previous Dental Patient Lobby. The renovations were completed by local laborers and were funded using monies set aside from the 2000 Capital Campaign for a Building Fund specifically for ongoing maintenance, capital improvement and future expansion of our facility.

If you would like to see the improvements or would like a tour of the Clinic, please contact Tanya Farrell. We would love to show you around!
