SUMMER IN THE CITY
 | UF's students in front of the White House |
Summer flew by, and before we knew it our SLPS students started back to school on August 11th! We have a few more weeks until
UrbanFUTURE programming officially starts on September 8th, and our students are back at it preparing for their future careers.
This past June, a group of 35 UrbanFUTURE students and staff set off on an educational adventure to Washington, DC! The team had a very full itinerary, including visits to museums, memorials, colleges and a tour of the US Capitol. View all the pictures from the trip here, our kids sure had fun learning about our Nation's Capital! Thank you again to all the generous donors who supported our students with the means to make this dream a reality. It was a trip our UF students will always remember!
 | Bishop DuBourg High School's Robotics Camp |
Earlier in the summer, 17 UrbanFUTURE students had the opportunity to participate in Bishop DuBourg High School's Robotics Camp. For a week, students worked in teams to engineer and program their own robots. At the end of the week, all teams battled it out in an action-packed competition to see whose robot would take top prize. View photos from the camp here, our UrbanFUTURE kids did a fantastic job and enjoyed working with middle and high school kids from various schools and programs in and around St. Louis.

UF Students at Ranken Summer Adventure Academy
|
In July, 54 UrbanFUTURE students participated in Ranken Technical College's Summer Adventure Academy. Students studied Robotics, Aviation Technology, G.A.M.E.S. (Girls Adventures in Math, Engineering and Science), Software Engineering, Web Development, Metalworking, Automotive Technologies and more. It was a treat for our students to gain experience in so many different fields, and to spark their interests in future careers they may have never considered! View photos from the Adventure Academy here, a big thanks to Ranken for your continued partnership with UrbanFUTURE!
As the 2014-2015 school year commences, we are thrilled to welcome new partnerships with various businesses and educational organizations. We are now a membe r of the Berklee City Music Network, and will be teaching the Berklee PULSE method of musical study to interested students beginning this fall. Our expanding partnerships with Ranken Technical College, the St. Louis Science Center and various local STEM-related businesses will ensure our students have access to STEM curriculum and can pursue careers and education in these fields. As always, with your help we will continue on our mission to embolden, educate and enliven our urban youth, and lead them on a path to a career in tomorrow's workforce.
Sincerely,
Frank Van Bree

 | Tutor or mentor and change a life! |
YOU CAN HELP! BECOME A...
1. Career Connector
Visit one of our middle schools and speak to the class about your personal career path! Or, allow UrbanFUTURE students to come to your workplace for a field trip, job shadow or internship.
Volunteer and mentor a student and provide a key link in the transition between middle school and high school, as well as develop the child's self confidence, interpersonal skills and career goals. Watch our video and learn more about mentoring a student.
3. Tutor
Help UrbanFUTURE students excel in school by tutoring kids in either Communication Arts, Math and reading. All students benefit from the personal attention and extra help. Tutors can feel accomplished that they are making a difference!
4. Donor
Invest in our urban students and help level the playing field for underserved kids. It costs
$3,186 per year for us to provide the full UrbanFUTURE experience to each student. Considering the cost to society per high school dropout is almost $10,000 per year, this small investment can have a lasting impact. With your financial support, we can increase the number of kids headed to tomorrow's workforce.
