Fee Increase to take effect 2014
The National Council of the Boy Scouts of America announced that the Boy Scouts of America is increasing its membership fee from $15 to $24 per year for all registered Scouts and adults effective January 1, 2014. For those who join after the beginning of the year, the fee will be prorated at $2 per month. This does include units with a December 31, 2013, expiration date. As always, our focus is to build the future leaders of this country by combining adventure, educational activities, and lifelong values. The fee increase is a step we must take in order to continue providing the services you and our members expect and need. With your help and that of each of our volunteers and Scouting parents, we will continue accomplishing incredible things for young people and the communities we serve. All Scouter Pow-Wow!
January 18th 2013
The All Scouter Pow Wow is a council sponsored event designed to be a day of learning and fun. It is a single day packed with a year's worth of fun, games, songs, skits, and new information for adults who want to provide the best Scouting program possible for their boys. This event includes topics of interest for Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Exploring and Venturing leaders. In addition to the many resources Pow Wow provides, participants have a chance to meet Scouters from all over our Council and complete supplemental training courses such as Safe Swim Defense, Safety Afloat and much more. 5-Star University
January 11th 2014
This outstanding training event is organized and staffed through the combined efforts of four councils. This multi-council format provides a wide range of experiences and draws on the special expertise of experienced Scouters in the Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing programs.
5-Star University provides focused, dedicated, high level courses for ALL Commissioners and ALL District and Council Program volunteers. The day is filled with supplemental/advanced training opportunities for all district and council level work. This year we have several new courses that represent the most up to date training and program information that can be found, all in an active and friendly atmosphere. Participants will be given the opportunity to earn various degrees (bachelors, masters, doctoral) or just participate for the day.

Voice of a Scout
Watch your e-mail inbox. In September, the Glaciers Edge Council will once again be participating in the Voice of the Scout survey. An e-mail with a Survey Link will be sent to a randomly selected group of Scouts, Scout Parents, Scout Leaders, Chartered Organization Representatives, and District and Council Volunteers. If you are selected to participate, we request that you take a few minutes and fill out the survey. These surveys are used to help us improve the programs and services that we offer. Please take advantage of this opportunity to be heard.

Commish Corner
What is a Commissioner?
Communication between a Unit's Leaders and their Unit Commissioner is essential to offering our Scouts and Scouters the best possible Scouting experience. Once a month, take five minutes to communicate with your Unit Commissioner. Share needs, problems, achievements, solutions, requests, and other pertinent information. In return your UC will offer resources, assistance, and important information from the National and Council offices as well as the District Committee to make your volunteer experience as smooth and pleasant as possible. They'll remind you of dates, deadlines, and upcoming events; all to make Scouting more fun for the Scouts and Scouters in your unit). Every unit is encouraged to invite their UC to unit events.
Commissioners are District, Council, and Unit leaders who help Scout units succeed. They coach and consult with adult leaders of Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, and Venturing crews. Commissioners help maintain the standards of the Boy Scouts of America. They also oversee the unit charter renewal plan so that each unit reregisters on time with an optimum number of youth and adult members. As experienced scout leaders, Commissioners help with unit committees, leader training, special needs, and recruiting, among other unit needs. They will work with your unit to determine ways to help you offer an outstanding Scouting program.
We are currently recruiting experienced Scouters to serve as Unit Commissioners. Because of this Commissioner shortage, many units needing commissioner assistance are unable to get it. Being a Unit Commissioner is a very rewarding experience. Unit Commissioners receive the proper training to do their job, meet as a group monthly, and have the opportunity to directly influence the success of many scout units. This is an ideal job for any experienced leader, or anyone willing to learn, be trained, and has enthusiasm and belief in the Scouting program. It is also ideal for former leaders who is no longer involved in your unit but still enjoys the program. It is also ideal for the Woodbadge candidate, an underused ASM, or a Committee Member. They will come back to your Unit far better able to assist you.
What roles does a Commissioner play?
A commissioner plays several roles, including friend, representative, unit "doctor," teacher, and counselor.

Discover the latitude and longitude coordinates of your current position. Then do the following:
Find out what time a satellite will pass over your area. Watch the satellite using binoculars. Record the time of your viewing, the weather conditions, how long the satellite was visible, and the path of the satellite. Then discuss your viewing with your counselor.
